Golden Oldies 💙
Don’t wait until your older dog is really struggling before seeking support - the sooner we can help, the better the outcome. 🐾
As our dogs age, subtle changes in strength, mobility, balance and confidence can start to appear, sometimes long before you can see an obvious problem.
Veterinary physiotherapy and hydrotherapy can help to maintain their bodies as they age, supporting:
🐾 Strength and muscle mass
🐾 Joint mobility and flexibility
🐾 Balance and coordination
🐾 Confidence in their movement
🐾 Independence and quality of life 💙

Below is is lovely Torrin, who comes in for regular exercise and prevention sessions. His owner noticed he was starting to slow down and wanted to be proactive in helping him stay fitter, stronger and feeling his best for longer. 🥰🐾

You don’t need to wait until they're struggling. If you've started noticing those little signs of ageing, get in touch with the AquaPaws team to find out how we can support your golden oldie. 💙

Oscar’s story…🥺 🚗

Oscar was sadly hit by a car in May after dashing into the road. Unfortunately, he went physically under the wheel as the car was moving.

As a result, Oscar needed surgery to fuse his shoulder. Which on top of pain, he can no longer use his shoulder like most dogs.

Our job has been to support Oscar, re-teach him how to adapt to walk with his fixed shoulder, and secondary issues elsewhere left from his accident.

After a fantastic recovery and hard work from our physios and his owners, he’s now back to loving life and chasing squirrels! 🐿️ 🤩

🐾 Ever wondered,

“Why should I book my dog a veterinary physiotherapy appointment?”

The simple answer:
The right rehabilitation can help give your dog the best opportunity for a stronger, more comfortable recovery.💙

Whether your dog is recovering from surgery or injury, struggling with mobility, or managing a long-term condition, veterinary physiotherapy can help improve strength, movement, balance, flexibility and confidence.

And recovery takes time. It’s rarely a quick fix progress comes through consistency, patience and a rehabilitation plan tailored specifically to your dog.

At AquaPaws, we can combine veterinary physiotherapy with hydrotherapy, laser therapy, rehabilitation exercises and personalised home exercise plans. These therapies work together to support your dog through the different stages of their recovery and help them continue progressing between appointments. 🐶🌊

The graph illustrates just how much of a difference supported, consistent rehabilitation can make over time.

💙 It’s not about rushing recovery it’s about giving your dog the right support to recover as well as they can.

Check out Skye - a total hip replacement pooch! 🦴

She had a major surgery, her acute rest and recovery, and has now had simply 5 sessions with us.

Her rehabilitation consists of hydro-physio, home exercise plan, stretches and management advice to optimise her post-surgical recovery.❤️‍🩹

Could you tell which leg she had her TOTAL HIP REPLACEMENT?! 😲🙌🥰

Meet Chester! 😃

Chester has been attending for some age related stiffness however, his sessions have also had some other benefits…🤔…

At 10 years old, Chester is newly fond of water and will now paddle much deeper than he ever has in his local river!! 🐾 💦

His owner is delighted he’s found his confidence with water, all alongside reaping the huge physical benefits too!

So the new time we get asked:

🗣️ “My dog doesn’t like water, I’m not sure he’ll cope with the hydrotherapy?”

… I’ll just point them in your direction Chester! ⭐ 🥰

🗣️ Calling all cat owners! 🐱

One of our lovely clients needs your help:

“I’m currently doing a Master’s in Small Animal Behaviour, and my thesis focuses on behavioural changes in older cats. To gather data, I’ve created a short survey for cat owners, which covers common issues like osteoarthritis (e.g., jumping less, grooming less, toileting outside the litter box), cognitive dysfunction syndrome, hyperthyroidism, and more.”

If you can help, please follow the link below!👇

✅ It’ll only take a couple of minutes and you will remain anonymous!

While all our cats are just babies, in general it is considered that cats reach old age when they are 10 years old or older. Could you kindly answer the following questions to help us to design tools to asses the well-being of old cats at home? This survey is voluntary and anonymous — no personal ...

Patella luxation is a common knee condition in dogs where the kneecap slips out of its normal groove, which can affect how comfortably and confidently they move. 🐾

Some dogs are born more prone to the condition due to,
🦴 genetics
🦴limb alignment
🦴shallow groove in the knee
🦴excess weight
🦴repetitive strain or injury

Signs can sometimes be subtle. Keep an eye out for skipping or “bunny hopping,” suddenly holding up a back leg, intermittent limping, stiffness, reluctance to jump, or changes in the way your dog walks 🚶‍♂️ Some dogs may only show symptoms occasionally, particularly in the early stages 🐕

💙 Prevention and early intervention are always better than waiting until mobility becomes a bigger problem.Keeping your dog at a healthy weight, providing appropriate exercise, supporting joint health and paying attention to changes in movement can all help protect their knees and long-term mobility.

If you notice your dog repeatedly skipping, limping or favouring a leg, it’s worth having them assessed. Early management can help reduce discomfort, limit further joint changes and keep your dog active and happy for longer. 🐶

Every dog is different, so their rehabilitation plan should be too. 🐾💙

A dog’s rehab programme should be tailored to their individual needs, taking into account factors such as their condition or injury, age, mobility, fitness level and stage of recovery

Thats whys the answer is.... 🥁 🥁

FALSE ❌️

What works for one dog may not be right
for another, which is why an individual approach is so important for safe and effective rehabilitation.

💦 At AquaPaws, we tailor the rehabilitation to the dog in front of us, helping them work towards their own goals at the right pace.
