For all of my 30 years in dog training, my main aim has been to keep as many dogs out of shelters as possible. I have a good respect for many shelters-where would we be without them? But recently, I was told that some so-called dog trainers still use electric shock collars,and collars with spikes that stick into the dog’s neck to stop it from pulling on the lead. These methods are abhorrent and it shows an obvious inability that these charlatan’s know jack- - - - about dog training. What is wrong with you people? If you cannot do the job, which is apparent, get a job you can do without using torture. If I can do it without inflicting pain, why can’t they? The answer to that question is evident.

I meet a lot of genuinely nice people everyday. Knowing that I can put right all my customers problems is a great feeling. They ring me, sometimes in tears, because they can not cope and fear that their beloved bundle of fun might have to be rehomed. People are at their wits end and say to me I have tried everything. Well, I know they have not. Over the last 6 months many of my phone calls and emails from customers have been about excessive barking. This is one of the easiest problems to put right. It takes days not months to cure, it is such a nightmare not only the owners but the neighbours as well.

Over my 28 years of "owner training" there are other problems apart from aggressive behaviour. There is a flip side. And that is the staggering amount of dog owners that have been burgled. The intruders have grabbed the car keys and taken off in the family car. When I ask the owners the whereabouts of their dog when this happened 8 out of 10 tell me that it was asleep on their bed or snoring on someone else's bed and didn't hear a thing. Owners spoil their dogs. Dogs will take everything you give them, and like a spoilt child they give naff-all back. My visits are not to turn their dog into a guard dog because they already have one but didn't know it. My job is to put back the structure which has been taken away. We have effectively taken the dog out of the dog and turned it into a wuss. ( That is a technical term for not up to the job). And we are paying a high price for it one way or the other. But like all dog problems they can be put right in no time at all.

A few years ago, I was helping people with their dogs that was biting and growling at them. This was due to people getting dogs when we were in lock down. Now we have moved on and more or less back on our feet, but I am still going out to people's homes helping them with their aggressive pets. It doesn't stop at the owners it also affects the kids. So, after all this time why are people still falling into the same pit of despair. The answer is simples. First they do not have a clue on how a dog works. Secondly, there are too many Wannabe dog trainers out there that know jack....about dog training. But they pass on the negative information and cause endless heart ache. It is easy to put these problems right it just takes someone that knows what they are talking about. This aggression can be sorted in two weeks, regardless the age of the dog from 8 weeks onwards. So, if you fined yourself in this position ring Problem Dog.

Unless you have been living on Mars you cannot have missed the shocking news reports on dog attacks. Nearly ever week it was reported that someone had been savaged. And I quote ' 22,000 cases of out-of-control dog attacks was reported over the past 5 years. Resulting in fatalities and serious injuries'. These dogs are not dogs that roam around causing havoc, these dogs are our fluffy bundles of fun which we house, feed and love. So, who is responsible for these crimes because crimes are what they are. The world and its wife propose to know how to train a dog and its these people that contribute to this shocking revelation. I have been a dog trainer for 30 years. And I do know that it only takes two weeks to turn a dog around. It cannot be done in a day, and it does not take months. Dog training is not policed, and I think it should be especially when lives are at stake. If you need a dog trainer do your research. Let us give the dog Shelters a break and our dogs a chance.

Misconceptions on diagnosing our pet dogs behaviour.
I had a call from a genuinely nice lady she had adopted a blind collie from Romania. She had adopted in her words a cowering wreck and turned it into a bouncy happy dog. Which was exactly what I met when I arrived. The other problem was that she said, and in her words, the dog was suffering from " Fear Aggression." The dog would suddenly snap at her husband and people that visited the house. Away from home she was fine. Her husband found this intimidating (who wouldn't). But to the uninitiated it would look like that was the problem. But, in fact it had nothing to do with fear aggression at all. The problem was less complicated than it sounded. This was not the true diagnoses. Fear aggression is something that people just say when a dog reacts badly to a particular incident, they do not know it for a fact, it is just words that people banter about hoping that it covers their problems. Not only does it give the dog a bad name it lessens the chances of the dog getting a fair trial.

As avid readers of my post will know I am forever expressing the view that I can cure your dog's problems within two weeks, (which is proven to be true as many of my clients will testify to the fact). For this to happen, you, as the dog's owner, will have to follow my instructions to the letter, no ifs and buts. As Christmas is just around the corner and at present we are free to invite whom we wish to visit and your dog is an embarrassment , (through no fault of its own), now is the perfect time to rectify any problems. When the family descends on Christmas Day, the Christmas tree is still standing proud, the kids toys are all intact, the turkey safely left on the worktop (instead of the dog having its dinner earlier than everyone else),no non stop barking and definitely no visit to the A&E for dog bites.
