Update on stock movements
With the Temporary Control Zone (TCZ) being announced there are some changes to the movement control measures that affect us

Changes to Movement controls currently in place
from 22 August 2026 the ‘4 day’ rule for Scottish animals attending a show/sale in a RZ area is suspended, this condition is replaced by a ‘1 day’ rule meaning animals must travel to and from a RZ area in a single day, and must be unloaded after sunrise and loaded before sunset
from 10 September 2026, all BTV susceptible animal travelling from a RZ area to Scotland, to live, must be vaccinated for BTV-3, any BTV-3 vaccine product is acceptable. Only cattle vaccinated with Bultavo-3 would be exempt from any testing requirements. This position will remain under constant review
relaxation of current movement restrictions intended to come into force on 10 September remain in constant review

New licences
There are now 4 main general licences that are required for stock movements that may apply to he farms in the (TCZ):
EXD673(S): General licence for movements of animals from premises within a bluetongue Temporary Control Zone in Scotland to a slaughterhouse
EXD674(S): General licence for movements of animals to premises inside a bluetongue Temporary Control Zone in Scotland
EXD675(S): General licence for movements of animals between premises inside a bluetongue Temporary Control Zone in Scotland
EXD676(S): General licence to move animals from a bluetongue temporary control zone to a free area of Scotland
The main requirements of all of these licences are:
inspection of stock immediately prior to loading for any signs suggestive of Bluetongue
vehicle hygiene, including insecticide treatment. Insecticides should be pyrethroid-based midge/fly sprays approved for farm animal
record keeping
In addition, EXD676(S) has vaccination and/or pre-movement testing requirements. Any testing to be done should be 7day or less prior to movement with negative results returned before movement is allowed. Please be aware that the testing laboratory is very busy and it may take longer than 7 days to obtain results

The Scottish government has made an announcement regarding the current Bluetongue situation in Dumfries and Galloway

“Animal movement restricted in an area around Dumfries and Galloway.
The Scottish Government is strengthening bluetongue disease controls after a case was detected near Lockerbie.

A Temporary Control Zone has been put in place in an area around Dumfries and Galloway as a precautionary measure while further investigations are conducted on the source and extent of the disease.
All movement of livestock such as cattle, sheep and other susceptible ruminants in or out of the zone can now only take place under licence. There will be also be increased surveillance and testing of animals nearby.

In addition, from Saturday 22 August, cattle, sheep and goats and other ruminants that are travelling from anywhere in Scotland to the Bluetongue Restricted Zone in place in the rest of the UK must return to Scotland on the same day to minimise the risk of the disease spreading. This replaces the current rule allowing up to four days away.”

ALERT: We have received unconfirmed reports of palm oil washed up on beaches in the region. Palm oil is dangerous to animals if eaten and we urge dog walkers in particular to keep your pets on a short lead if walking on the beach.
Palm oil looks like a solid white or yellowish lump similar to candle wax, often smelling of diesel or rotten fish.
If your animal eats it, contact your vet immediately.
