I’ve lost count of the times people say “I’d love your job just playing with dogs all day” 🤦♀️
Dog walking might look simple from the outside—but there’s so much more to it than meets the eye! 🐕🐾
Happy settled group like these doesn’t come together by accident! 👀
Behind every Waggy Walkers group walk is:
🐾 Carefully matching dogs by personality, size and play style
🐾 Introducing new dogs slowly and safely
🐾 Spending weeks building trust with each new dog and allowing them to build trust in me
🐾 Keeping new dogs securely on lead until we know each other well and their recall has been tested successfully numerous times on a long line, around different distractions
🐾 Only considering off-lead walks once I’m confident it is safe—and recognising that some dogs may always need to remain on lead
🐾 Teaching boundaries and encouraging calm behaviour
🐾 Constantly watching body language and group dynamics
🐾 Managing different speeds, energy levels and individual needs
🐾 Choosing safe, secure places where everyone can enjoy themselves
🐾 Making sure each dog travels safely and comfortably in the van—never crammed into cages, as overcrowding is dangerous and can cause stress, injury and overheating
🐾 Knowing when a dog needs more space, a little reassurance or a break
🐾 Managing the admin behind the scenes, including messages, bookings, updates, invoices and keeping each dog’s information up to date
🐾 Planning the weekly diary carefully so walks are organised, dogs are matched appropriately, travel times are realistic and every dog receives the time, attention and care they need
A well-managed group can make dog walking look effortless—but that’s because of all the planning, experience and care that goes into every walk.
I don’t simply turn up, clip on the leads and hope for the best. Every dog in my care is treated as an individual, while also making sure the whole group remains happy and safe.
The best group walks often look calm and uneventful—and that’s exactly how they should look! 🐶❤️
