Here are some of our highlights from the Widecombe Fair this year.

It was sad not to have sheep and cattle this year, but it didn’t take away from the spirit of the day.

The fair was still full of familiar faces, good conversations, and that unique Widecombe atmosphere we all look forward to.

A huge thank‑you to everyone who came along and said hello.
We are already looking forward to next year.

Castle Lite and Shine

Castle Horse Feeds, Castle Lite & Shine is one of Vanessa's favourites – quick to soak, super digestible and perfect when grass is running low. One cup + water = a fluffy mash in 10 minutes (and yes, the horses can hear it being made).

Gus, Peaches, Ted and Yogi all gave it their usual enthusiastic approval. Low sugar, low starch, high fibre and full of cooked linseed. A brilliant forage replacer and ideal for older horses or those needing softer feed.

An update on Maisy the cow, who was taken from our Peartree site ... sadly, it is no news at all.

We are not holding out much hope of getting her back but we will still hold out hope.

We visited .garden.growers market garden and saw how their mulches, fertilisers and compost boosters were working for their soil.

They were growing some very tasty veg!

They are their natural products, along with companion planting in their beds.

They were planting Basil with Tomatoes
• Basil’s strong scent naturally repels aphids, whiteflies, thrips and hornworms.
• Its oils help boost tomato immunity.
• Tomatoes grown with basil can produce fruit up to 20% heavier.
• Basil flowers attract bees and butterflies for better pollination.
• Their roots don’t compete, and tomatoes give basil just enough shade to stop it bolting.

And Fruit Trees to help veg beds.
• Better soil health: Tree roots break up compacted soil and improve structure, helping water move deeper and reducing runoff.
• Nutrient cycling: Trees pull minerals from lower layers and return them to the surface through leaf fall, feeding the soil naturally.
• Microclimate benefits: Trees create gentle shade and wind protection, helping veg beds stay cooler and reducing moisture loss.
• More biodiversity: Trees attract beneficial insects, birds and pollinators — all of which support healthier veg crops.
