We are looking for alternative homes!
We’re finally starting to push our way through our stray waiting list, which means more cats are coming into our care, and some of them simply aren’t suited to life as a traditional pet.
For these cats, an alternative home can be absolutely life-changing.
We’re looking for farms, stables, smallholdings, workshops, rural properties and similar safe locations where a cat can live life on their own terms.
These cats may have spent most or all of their lives outdoors and can be extremely wary of people. They aren’t necessarily going to become lap cats, and some may prefer to keep their distance completely.
What they need is somewhere safe to call home, with shelter, regular food and water, and somebody keeping an eye on their wellbeing.
What you’ll need:
• A safe location away from busy roads
• A secure, dry and weatherproof shelter
• The ability to provide fresh food and water every day
• Somewhere suitable to keep the cat securely confined during their initial settling-in period
• Patience and an understanding that these cats may never want human interaction
We’ll provide everything needed for their settling-in period.
They can’t simply be released into a new environment straight away. They need a period of secure confinement first, allowing them to get used to the sights, sounds and smells of their new home and, most importantly, learn that this is where their food and safety are.
We’ll provide the equipment needed for this settling-in period and talk you through the whole process, so you won’t be expected to figure it out yourself.
All cats will also be neutered, microchipped, treated for fleas and worms and receive the veterinary care they need before leaving us.
Some cats may eventually become friendlier once they feel safe. Others may simply appear at dinner time, give you a suspicious stare from across the yard and disappear again, and that’s absolutely fine!
The aim isn’t to change them. It’s to give them a safe life that suits them.
With more cats now coming through our doors, we need to build up our list of alternative homes ready for the cats who need them.
