First time washes always make me smile.

I got a message from a new customer with loads of photos and one simple line:

“Bella enjoyed her first time at Scrub A Pup.”

That’s what I love seeing.

A dog that’s settled.
A first visit that goes smoothly.
And a wash that doesn’t feel like a battle.

Seeing dogs like Bella comfortable at the wash
is exactly why this place exists.

If you’ve been thinking about trying it for the first time,
this might give you the nudge.

Pop down and give it a go.

If you keep putting off washing your dog, this might be why.

It’s not that you don’t care.

It’s that you’re tired.
It’s dark by the time you get home.
Everything feels like effort.

You know the dog needs washed.
But then you think about the bathroom.
The clean-up.
The wet dog smell that hangs around all evening.

So you leave it another day.
And the guilt creeps in.

That’s the part I wanted to fix with Scrub A Pup.
A way to get your dog clean
without turning it into a whole ordeal at home.

So it doesn’t feel like something you keep putting off.

5 signs your dog needs a wash sooner than you think.

1. They feel greasy, not muddy.

2. The smell shows up indoors, not outside.

3. Their chest or belly feels sticky.

4. They leave a smell on blankets or the sofa.

5. You keep saying “I’ll do it at the weekend”.

Winter coats hide a lot.
It’s not always obvious until it’s really obvious.

Catching it early makes a difference.
The wash is quicker.
The drying is easier.
And you’re not dealing with smells hanging around the house after.

That’s exactly why Scrub A Pup exists.
So when you spot the signs,
sorting it doesn’t have to turn into a big job at home.

If you’re ever unsure whether it’s time,
just ask.

Winter can be heavy going as a dog owner.

Cold mornings.
Dark evenings.
Mud everywhere you turn.

And sometimes the hardest part isn’t the dog.
It’s finding the energy for everything that comes after.

I built Scrub A Pup because I wanted an easier option.
Not because I care less.
But because life’s busy and winter takes it out of you.

Choosing convenience isn’t cutting corners.
It’s protecting your time and your headspace.

And that matters just as much as anything else.

I’m not big on New Year’s resolutions.
Especially when it comes to dogs.

There’s no “new year, new dog”.
No fixing.
No sudden changes just because the calendar flipped.

Most dogs don’t need more from us.
They need consistency.
Patience.
And owners who aren’t putting themselves under constant pressure.

That’s how I think about Scrub A Pup as well.
It’s not about doing more.
It’s about supporting what you’re already doing.

So if today feels quiet, slow, or a bit flat.
That’s okay too.

New Year’s Eve always brings a strange pressure.

Like everything needs to be wrapped up neatly before midnight.
Like you should be reflecting, planning, resetting, fixing.

But life with dogs doesn’t work like that.
They don’t care what date it is.
They still need walked.
They still get muddy.
They still want to curl up beside you at the end of the day.

And honestly, I think that’s a good reminder.

You don’t need to have it all figured out tonight.
You’re allowed to just let the year end quietly.

That’s the mindset behind Scrub A Pup too.
Not about perfection.
Just about making the everyday stuff a bit easier.

26/12/2025

Responsible dog ownership doesn’t look the same for everyone.

It’s not about perfect behaviour.
Or spotless houses.

It’s about knowing your dog.
Understanding their quirks.
And choosing what works best for both of you.

Scrub A Pup was built with that in mind.
A practical option for real dogs.
And real owners.

No judgement.
Just support.

Christmas Day feels like the right time to say thank you.

Thank you to everyone who’s used Scrub A Pup this year.
Whether it was once, a few times, or you’ve become a regular face.

This wash exists because people trusted it.
And because dog owners around Newry wanted an easier option.

I hope you and your dogs have a calm, cosy day today.
Whatever Christmas looks like in your house.

Merry Christmas from me and Max.

Christmas isn’t about doing more.
It’s about doing enough.

Enough walks.
Enough care.
Enough attention.

This time of year already asks a lot from people.
Work. Family. Money. Time.

Scrub A Pup was built for moments like this.
When you still care deeply about your dog,
but you need things to be simpler.

Ten minutes.
No mess at home.
One less thing hanging over your head.

Not every dog loves visitors.

Some are fine with it.
Others find the noise and movement overwhelming.

That’s not bad behaviour.
That’s just personality.

I’ve always believed dogs should be allowed to be themselves.
Not forced into situations they’re uncomfortable with.

That’s the same approach I’ve taken with Scrub A Pup.
You’re in control the whole time.
You go at your dog’s pace.
No rushing. No pressure.

Especially important at this time of year.
