Welcome to the family, Maggie. 🧡🐾

You were brought into the RSPCA Cornwall branch all by yourself at just 10 weeks old, with your poorly little cherry eye and needing somewhere safe to stay for the night.

So me and Bradley had a chat about bringing you home to foster. Although, if I’m honest, I think I’d already made my mind up. 😂 You were coming home with us!

What was meant to be a little foster stay whilst you had your cherry eye surgery and recovered soon turned into something a little more permanent.

First came the surgery, then the shaved little face and, of course, the dreaded cone of shame. Poor girl, you were feeling extremely sorry for yourself.

But somewhere between the cheeky puppy antics, the endless floof, the cone of shame, and your permanent chicken nugget appearance, we completely fell in love with you.

I think Bradley knew we were in trouble from the very beginning. His exact words were, “Uh-oh, we’re in trouble.”

And he was right.

Because today, our little foster puppy officially became part of the family. 🥹🧡

And now, Bradley has another ginger in the household! Although this one has four legs, considerably more floof, looks suspiciously like a chicken nugget, and will probably cause far more chaos.

Welcome home, Maggie. You only came to stay for a little bit whilst you recovered, but somewhere along the way, you stole our hearts and became part of the family.

P.S. I can’t wait for you to become besties with Tilly Floofbutt. 🐾

Bring on all the adventures! 🧡

Chance was the best boy! And what happened to him was absolutley disgusting. Im so glad this can now be shared. It makes me feel physically sick that people can be so cruel. Rest in peace Chance boy and beautiful Casper 😓💔

And.. the lady is a LOCAL pet sitter/dog walker! 😡😡🤬🤬🤬 makes me so angry!

Absolutely heartbreaking 😔

A dog and a cat suffered so much abuse by their owner that they died.

Jordan Wood, 25, admitted to three animal welfare offences following an RSPCA prosecution, relating to a male Labrador-type dog named Chance and a male cat called Casper.

Both pets were found to have suffered repetitive, non-accidental blunt force trauma and, ultimately, died due to the severity and complications from their horrific injuries.

Chance was seized by police and placed into RSPCA care. Further vet exams found Chance had sustained multiple traumatic head, throat and spinal injuries over several months. His whiskers had also been burned off.

The owner initially claimed that Chance ran into a fence, but the severity of the dog's injuries told a different story.

There were skull fractures on both the left and right frontal bones on the skull involving the frontal sinuses, as well as a small fracture of the external sagittal crest.

The throat and windpipe showed injuries recognised as features of strangulation and caused an altered airway size. The windpipe also had an abnormal, flattened profile with an over-distended muscle, consistent with repeated compression from a collar, the RSPCA said.

His spinal fracture indicated a high-level blunt force applied to the lower spine and swelling, bruising, and skin abrasions around both eyes, the face, ears, and mid-neck, consistent with blunt force blows or tight ligatures.

Chance was sadly put down because of further complications from his pre-existing throat fractures while in RSPCA care.

In August 2025, Casper was found dead after suffering catastrophic injuries from at least three separate timelines of blunt force trauma to his chest, alongside skeletal and severe head trauma. Alongside the rib fractures, which were healing at different rates, showing three separate stages of injury, he also had a dislocation of the sternum and limb fractures.

Wood was banned from keeping animals for life and jailed for 18 months after being sentenced at Truro on August 6. A second person is due to be sentenced for related offences on September 11.

Ellen Gibson, aged 24 and of Kilkham, Yorkshire, has also pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering or permitting it to happen to Chance, who she was responsible for, and causing Casper unnecessary suffering or permitting it to happen and failing to get vet care for the cat.
