Third reactive walk with Captain as our stooge dog 🐾

R is learning that walks don’t have to be full of big feelings, that he can calmly coexistence, building his confidence and learning to be around another dog without pressure 💛

So proud of the progress these two are making together.

Little paddle this morning for R & B at a beautiful wild swimming spot 🌿💦
Two very satisfied puppers after their adventure today 🐾🤎

We took a walk out with Captain and Emiliee Rees for a little training session.

R has some big feelings towards Captain at the beginning but we finished off the walk on a massive win!
R has great engagement and check-ins with me even with Captain quite close to him.
This is the first time the boys have been so close to each other on a lead walk.

This weekend I had the opportunity to shadow a fascinating behavioural case with Lead On . She's been working with this boy who experiences big feelings around people and dogs.

I was there to observe Marie's work and also act as a new visual for him to process. He did incredibly well and by the end of the session I was able to walk with Marie and his owners.

His owners are doing a great job with Marie's support 🐾💛

Reactivity training with Captain & R 🐾✨

Not every session is about perfection — sometimes it’s simply learning to exist side by side in the world 🌍

Watching, processing, and choosing to disengage from the distractions around them.

Calm isn’t forced… it’s built 💭

And these two are putting in the work 💪

High arousal, real-life distractions… and a collie choosing disengagement 🙌

In this clip, we’ve got a barking dog in the background and all the ingredients for escalation — but instead of reacting, he makes the choice to check out and come back to neutral 💭

This is what we’re aiming for 👇
✨ Not suppression
✨ Not forced obedience
✨ But genuine emotional regulation

Disengagement like this doesn’t happen by accident — it’s built through consistent, short sessions where the dog learns they don’t have to engage with every trigger 🧠

For high-drive breeds like collies, this skill is EVERYTHING. It’s the difference between reacting… and thinking.
Keep sessions short, set them up for success, and celebrate the small wins 👏

No cue. No pressure. Just choice 👀

In this clip, he’s in middle, calmly laid down, watching a spaniel and their owner playing with a ball thrower — a huge trigger for many dogs 🔥

But instead of being told what to do, he’s given the space to observe… process… and regulate 💭
This is where the real learning happens 👇

✨ No constant cues
✨ No micromanaging
✨ Just building the ability to exist around excitement

We’re working at a distance where he can stay under threshold, make good decisions, and realise he doesn’t need to get involved 🙌

For dogs who struggle with arousal around movement and play, this kind of setup is gold. Calm isn’t forced — it’s learned 🧠

Slow it down, give them space, and let them choose calm 👏

Honing his stalking skills 🕵🏻

You don’t need sheep for a Border Collie to use their herding instincts 🐑

This clever pup is channeling all those natural herding instincts into a little DIY game instead. Border Collies were bred to think, problem-solve, and control movement, so games like this are a great way to give them a job and burn that brilliant brain power.

Mental stimulation + controlled movement = a very satisfied collie.

Got a high-drive dog at home? Try creating simple games that let them use their natural instincts in a safe, fun way. You’ll be amazed how quickly they switch on.
Would your dog enjoy this game? 👇
