The very handsome Brody is 13 years young! He's the perfect example of a case needing staged dentistry.

Due to having heart disease, we planned to clean his teeth, take x-rays to assess the roots and jaw, and remove any that were causing an immediate problem. This means we kept the anaesthetic shorter, but still had massive benefits for his comfort. Due to this, he recovered really quickly, and walked out like we hadn't done much.

Hopefully this stage of his treatment will make him feel far more comfortable and reduce the bacteria load in his mouth. As long as he's recovered normally, we can get any other problematic teeth out in a couple of weeks, keeping stress and anaesthetic risks to a minimum.

The lovely Betsy was a big hit with the team in every way.

She had an uncomfortable mouth so had an urgent dental. 4 extractions later and she should certainly feel much more herself.

Although we have just about every warming device you can think of, it was essential Betsy was snuggled in a jacket as often as possible 😆Everyone loved having her help with all the admin and team chats and she recovered perfectly

Today we have some planned network upgrades taking place which may result in some short, temporary phone line and system outages.

Did you know that approximately 80% of dogs and cats suffer with dental disease?

Not only can this be uncomfortable to the point of not being able to eat and loosing teeth, the bacteria from this painful disease, can affect other organs.

The gorgeous Maisey was in to be neutered.

She was a slightly complicated one due to having a condition called Hydrocephalis. This is where an cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and can cause neurological signs.

Luckily, Maisey had been seen as a puppy by veterinary surgeon Becky who was quick to work up the neurological signs and refer her to Davies Veterinary Specialists for a diagnosis.

Maisey is on daily medications and seems very stable but these medications can actually slow wound repair. She did great during her operation and on recovery and all has been routine. Well done Maisey!

The last of the tour is under-rated but essential, the washing and store rooms.

Our washing machine and tumble dryer are in constant use due to the volume of bedding used for patients, both hospitalised, and those in for procedures. The bowls also pile up quickly because we do enjoy feeding our patients when they are ready 🥰

Our store room is where our kits are cleaned and autoclaved ready for the next procedure. It's all about folding drapes, wrapping kits, and keeping a constant sterile supply of all equipment, gloves, gowns, prep bowls etc.

Basically, these 2 rooms mean that even if there are no patients in, and the vets are busy doing their admin, the nurse team still have a lot of finishing and set up work to do!

The last of our patient rooms, ICU.

This is the room most commonly used for respiratory and heart cases that require high level monitoring. Here we have a set oxygen kennel, plus we have a collapsible one so we can ensure patients can get the appropriate treatment and montiroing in the right area.
This room is next to prep so there is super easy access to anything required. We also use this room for any routine cases that need space or quiet.

The isolation room.

If you're pet is suspected to have anything contagious (to pets or to humans) they will be housed in this room. Luckily this room is used a lot less than it used to be due to increased awareness of the benefits of vaccines but it is certainly nice to have the separate space when needed.

We often use this room for our rabbit patients as it is so quiet and used less, therefore reducing pet smells, plus they can get a good sized bed to make sure they can move about freely which is especially important in cases of gut stasis. After each patient, the nurses scrub it down to ensure it's ready for the next case.
