🥰🐾🥰 This week's Sunday Snuggles post is all about starting them young - everyone say hi to receptionist Karen's puppy Reggie!!! 🥰🐾🥰

Obviously, as soon as he set foot through the door for his health check and vaccination, Reggie was stolen by Claire and Debbie for the obligatory cuddles and also a brief initiation into the role of veterinary receptionist. Essentially, if a position becomes available it will be his... 😉

🎊🎉🎊 Happy weekend all and many apologies for the lack of posts recently from the Willow Vets Facebook Fairy - it's been a busy old time at the surgery and an 'all hands to the pump' mentality has been the order of the day!!! Hopefully there will be a few more posts to follow, especially regarding an exciting new addition to the surgery at Newport Pagnell - watch this space...! 🎊🎉🎊

For today we have a really interesting case. A lovely young Staffie was brought in by her worried owner after having a 'coming together' (as only a Staffie can 😅) with another dog. At least 2 of her lower incisors (the small teeth at the very front of the mouth) were knocked out at the time and found on the floor 😮😮😮. Vet Abbie performed the initial exam and checked the teeth which were brought in - confirming that they had snapped off at the gumline. Abbie could see that there were actually 4 teeth missing - she could see 1 root remnant, but amazingly the gum had already healed over the other sockets left by the other 3 broken teeth. Even so, she recommended x-rays of the area to check for retained roots, which would go on to cause lots of dental pain if they were left in situ.

When the x-rays were taken, in spite of the gums looking perfectly normal, all 4 of the roots were present and completely intact (as you can see from the x-ray) so vet Libby incised through the healed gums to extract the roots, which, thankfully, all came out very nicely. (You can see the jagged broken pieces of tooth attached to the roots uppermost in the photo)

It just goes to show how important x-rays are when assessing dental health as this is the only way to check for problems below the gumline. Thankfully in this case full extraction of the roots should ensure the return to a comfy mouth - even if there are a few gaps!!!

Lots of lumps are very benign and don't need any treatment but it's always best to get them checked out and there are some instances, which are listed on this post, where we would definitely advise a check up.

❤️🌟❤️ Not exactly a Sunday Snuggles post this week - more a Sunday Superstar!!! Everyone say hello to the wonderful Mr Tibbs!!! ❤️🌟❤️

Mr Tibbs is the sweetest boy - we have been seeing him recently for a really nasty condition called gingivitis/stomatitis complex, which causes extreme inflammation, ulceration and pain in the mouth. As is often the case, Mr Tibbs has had to undergo extensive dental surgery to remove all his remaining teeth, in order to try and control the inflammation in his mouth and make him as comfortable as possible 🙏

Mr Tibbs hates travelling and his owner has found it is much less stressful for him to travel on a harness rather than in a carrier, so when it is safe and the waiting room is empty, he can come and sit on the counter to get fuss from our reception team while he is waiting for his appointments or for medication to be dispensed. In fact, on this occasion, he was enjoying his fuss so much that he held on to the reception desk and had to be physically removed when it was time to go home!!!

Throughout all his visits to us and through all his treatment, Mr Tibbs has been the most perfect patient. This is a real tribute to his personality because he started his life as a feral (essentially wild) cat! We know this because you may be able to see that Mr Tibbs is missing the top portion of his left ear. 'Ear tipping' is done at the same time as spaying or castrating a feral cat so that rescue charities can easily identify neutered individuals and ensure that they aren't recaptured unnecessarily. Despite this start in life, Mr Tibbs is the sweetest most friendly boy you could ever have the pleasure to meet - proving once again that animals' capacity for forgiveness and love goes far beyond ours 🥹🥹🥹

Thanks for being such a wonderful boy Mr Tibbs, you really are an inspiration to us all 🥰🥰🥰

😍⛈😍 Morning all! We hope you are all having a lovely bank holiday weekend so far - it's been a bit stormy but we definitely need to the rain so we're not complaining!! 😍⛈😍

😍💉😍 Post op pain relief is something we offer in spades at Willow Vets!!! 😍💉😍

This gorgeous girl came in recently for her spay, and as you can see, she was feeling pretty fabulous after her procedure! We woke her up taking her photo, but she was absolutely fast asleep before we crept in and obviously feeling no pain 😍😍😍'

In our view, pain relief - and as much as is needed - is an absolute pre-requisite for any procedure. Our nurses constantly monitor our patients post operatively and ensure that they receive exactly what they need to keep them comfy - that always has been and always will be the Willow Vets way ###
