Rufus first came to Moorview Referrals over two years ago after his owners noticed he was becoming increasingly lethargic, breathing more rapidly than normal, and struggling to keep up with his usual activities. Concerned about these changes, they sought further advice, and Rufus was referred to our cardiology team.
Following a comprehensive cardiac assessment with our cardiologist, Antonio, Rufus was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, a condition that causes an abnormally fast and irregular heart rhythm, together with an enlarged heart. These findings explained the symptoms he had been experiencing and highlighted the need for prompt treatment and ongoing management.
Rufus was initially stabilised in hospital, where his condition was carefully monitored and medical therapy was introduced to help control his heart rhythm and support his heart function. Once his condition had improved, he was able to return home to his family.
Since then, Rufus has responded exceptionally well to treatment. With regular check-ups, careful monitoring, and ongoing heart medication, he has continued to enjoy an excellent quality of life. More than two years on from his diagnosis, Rufus remains a happy and much-loved pet, enjoying life with his family and proving just how much of a difference expert cardiac care can make.
