We nurture the mental and physical wellbeing of adults with learning disabilities by involving them in running a community farm which brings joy and learning to 30,000 local visitors per year. Through structured placements across our bustling farmyard, gardens and visitor centre, they interact with nature and the wider community, helping them to overcome low self-esteem, loneliness and achieve powerful, lasting change in their wellbeing.

This World Environment Day, here are some of the beautiful blooms popping up in the farm's garden.

To make sure your garden, window boxes or balcony pots are pollinator friendly, here are some useful tips:

❇️ Mow grass less often to allow native weeds like dandelions and clover to flower

💧Place a shallow dish with water and pebbles in a sunny spot so insects can drink safely

🌹 Multi-petaled flowers often hide nectar. Choose some simple, single-layered petals to have in your garden too

🌻 Aim to have something in flower every month

🪹 Provide nest and rest sites for wild bees, including a sunny patch of bare soil to attract ground-nesting solitary bees

🌳 If you have room, plant a flowering tree

☣️ Avoid using any pesticides in your outdoor space

🥰 Plant things you enjoy as well as the bees!

This Volunteers' Week we want to say a massive thank you to all of our amazing regular volunteers. We currently have over 70 active regular volunteers who commit to giving their time each week in areas such as customer service in the farm shop, large and small animal care, horticulture, heritage and one-to-one support for participants on our Placement Programme.

Here is a lovely selection of photos but we have so many more volunteers who are not featured, and we are so grateful for you all! Ouseburn Farm would not be the same without you. 😘

Thank you to Hugh, our former farm manager, who shared his fondest memory for our 50th anniversary.

We’re free for the community and we want to remain that way, always.

Which is why we’re crowdfunding £50k to celebrate 50 years of community.

If you’d like to help us grow for the next 50 years, please consider supporting us and sharing with your friends.

Thank you 🫶
