🐕🐈‍⬛A slightly delayed Happy New Year to all our clients and patients.🐰🐹

As many of you will have seen from Neil’s recent post, he officially retired from the practice on the 3rd of January. The comments say it all — he will be greatly missed by clients, patients, and staff alike.

A little bit about me: I’m Rachael Yost, a highly experienced small animal vet who graduated from Edinburgh University in 2007, and I’ve now been in practice for nearly 20 years. Many of you will already know me from my part‑time work at Metrovets over the past decade, supporting Neil’s busy caseload and helping ensure he could take some much‑needed time off.
Because of this, I know this practice, I know the people, I know the staff — and most importantly, I know the level of care and attention that you, our clients and patients, expect, deserve, and have always received from both Neil and myself.

My goal as the new owner is to maintain those high standards, get to know all our loyal clients, and continue developing the practice so we can keep providing the very best independent veterinary care in the North East.

You will continue to see the same dedicated reception and nursing team, and our opening hours remain unchanged. There are no alterations to our IT systems, so we have full access to all medical histories and client information exactly as before.

I want to wish Neil all the very best with his upcoming surgery and his travels to visit his boys. It has been a pleasure working alongside him for the past 10 years.

I wanted to put a message up at the end of my first week but unfortunately I slipped on the ice on Friday 9th Jan on my way to work. After a morning of consults I took at trip to minor injuries where I discovered I had fractured my leg, which led to a week‑long stay at the RVI. Not quite how I wanted my new year or business venture to begin!🤕🦵
I now have some new metalwork holding me together and will be back at work as soon as I’m permitted by the doctors. In the meantime, we have some wonderful vets stepping to work alongside our longstanding reception and nursing team so we can continue caring for your pets without interruption.

We are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible and are extremely grateful for your continued trust in Metrovets. If you have any questions or concerns, please email the practice at [email protected], and I will personally review them.
For appointments and prescription requests, please continue to use [email protected].

I look forward to meeting many new faces over the coming months and truly appreciate the support and kindness shown by clients over the past couple of weeks both with the new ownership and my accident.

Rachael

Hello everyone,

I was sitting here thinking how to write this the best way, then came to the conclusion that I should just do my usual and tell it like it is.

This was my last day working at Metrovets.

Over recent months I have decided to sell the practice. There were two major factors that led me to making that decision.

The first is that my elder son moved to Dubai two years ago and my younger son will be moving to Croatia to study at university this year. Continuing as I do here would leave me unable to spend the amount of time with them that a father would wish to.

The second is I have been living with a spinal condition for a few years now, after investigation an operation is necessary to correct it, I have continued to keep putting that off as the recovery will require me not to work for several months. I am keen to get the operation done rather than it continuing to deteriorate.

I know many of you are clients of the practice due to our standing as one of the very few remaining independent veterinary practices remaining in Newcastle and to that end I was very keen for it to remain that way and not be passed on a corporate entity. I have rebuffed a number of offers from those companies.

Therefore it gives me great pleasure that Metrovets will continue as an independent practice, with it passing into the hands of Rachael Yost. The vast majority of you will know Rachael well given that she has worked here part time for more than 10 years.

Rachael is widely regarded for her veterinary skills, communication and empathy. I genuinely cannot think of anyone I would be happier to continue taking Metrovets forward and it gives me great pleasure and reassurance it is in such capable hands and will continue with our values of fabulous veterinary care, excellent customer service and genuine value for money for our loyal clients and their precious pets.

I sincerely apologise I have not been able to say goodbye in person to everyone, that has been difficult on a day to day basis recently, however the terms of the transition necessitated confidentiality on both sides. I'm also not very good at goodbye's !

It's been lovely knowing you all over the past 17 and a half years ( blimey does that make me feel old ! ) There has been a lot of fun and laughs in that time, even through the sad times

Take care and thank you for supporting Metrovets now and in the future.

Neil

We are pleased to announce that we are able to restart Booster vaccinations for our clients pets, which were suspended due to lockdown. There are three months of boosters to catch up upon - March, April and May so clearly we cannot do them all at once as we are still working with reduced veterinary and support staff so it's going to take time to catch up on them but we will. Therefore SMS text reminders will be sent in blocks over time, starting with the beginning of March ones. There will be no need to restart vaccinations, just a normal booster as before, therefore please do not phone for a booster appointment until you receive a text reminder, otherwise we will be overwhelmed. Thank you for your patience and understanding as always.
