The time has now come for me to retire from dog training. I would like to thank everyone for their support over the years. I will never forget all the lovely dogs and their owners that I have met. Thank you once again for your support.

I am really saddened that in North East England there is a dog walking group that advocates the use of E collars in the training of dogs. This group has quite a large following of dog owners, and it is so sad that the group has such an influence on pet dog owners who are at times in desperate need of help with their pets. They flower up their terminology by suggesting an E collar is not a shock collar. An E collar is a shock collar!. Why would you want to hurt your beloved pet. Research has shown over and over again that using such aversive devices on our dogs causes more behavioural problems than they appear to resolve. Please, please if you are a dog owner who needs help with your dog, don’t be drawn into these often well written advertisements, that appear to offer you almost instant results for your dogs behavioural problems In exchange for delivering a quick shock. If you need help have a look for a trainer or behaviourist who has some sort of regulation . www.apdt.co.uk, www.apbc.co.uk or www.abtc.co.uk are great places to start.

The Animal Behaviour and Training Council sets and maintains standards of knowledge and practical skills needed to be an animal trainer, training instructor or animal behaviour therapist and maintains the national Register of appropriately assessed practitioners.

Hi guys. A post for owners of dogs with double coat, curly coat or mixed coat. I know it breaks your heart when you’ve regularly brushed your dog but I tell you it’s matted underneath! I know it breaks mine too. I’m looking at ways to help you groom your lovely dogs at home in between visits that will help you get the groom you want, rather than being shaved.
Would anyone be interested in learning how to effectively line brush your wonderful dog? Is this something that would be helpful?
Please let me know your thoughts ###

Some lovely ideas for retrieve games from my friend Sue McCabe at Muttamorphosis dog training and behaviour

I was recently asked by an owner of a ball-mad spaniel how they could get more out of games with their dog, without just relying on fetch. This is a great question. Playing more imaginative games can help keep your dog keen and focused. It’s great way to train as you play because if you […]
