We have a fantastic range of equestrian activities planned at Murton Equestrian Centre, with plenty of opportunities to spend time with our ponies, learn new skills and make wonderful memories! ❤️

✨ WHAT’S ON THIS HALF TERM?✨

🐴 Loan a Pony – Full Day Experience
🕙 10am–3pm | £90 per day
Spend the day grooming, cuddling, tacking up, riding and caring for your pony! Suitable for children aged 6+.
📅 27th, 28th & 29th October – Lead Rein & Walk/Trot
📅 27th, 28th, 29th & 30th October – Loose Rein & above

🎃 Spooky Halloween Pony Games
📅 Thursday 29th October at 5pm – Lead Rein, Walk/Trot & Loose Rein
📅 Friday 30th October at 6pm – Novice Lesson Plus
👻 Come along for an hour of spooky pony games, with a prize for the best costume!

🦺 Ride Safe Day – Friday 30th October
A great opportunity to develop riding safety knowledge and skills.

🐎 Whether your child is a beginner or a more experienced rider, we have activities to help them build confidence, learn about horse care and enjoy time with our ponies.

⚠️ Spaces are limited, so don't leave it until the last minute! We also have horse handling sessions starting in November.

🐴 Meet the Team – Naomi Barns!👋

We’re delighted to introduce Naomi Barns, who has joined the team at Murton Equestrian Centre!

Naomi is currently in her third year studying Equine Business at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI). Although she has always had a passion for horses, she didn’t start riding until she was 17, proving it’s never too late to follow your dreams!

Since then, Naomi has gained valuable experience working at yards in both Scotland and London as an instructor and groom. She is currently working towards her BHS Stage qualifications and hopes to develop her career into freelance coaching in the future.

We’re pleased to have Naomi as part of the team and look forward to supporting her as she continues to develop her skills and experience within the equestrian industry. 🤩🐎

🐴 OUR HORSES ARE SO MUCH MORE THAN JUST SCHOOL HORSES!❤️

At Murton Equestrian Centre, we're incredibly proud of the quality of horses we have in our riding school.

Our horses are well trained, carefully managed and many are schooled up to Medium level dressage and some that can jump around a Discovery track.They are not simply horses that plod around the arena regardless of what their rider does — they are educated horses with the ability to offer so much more.

✨ A horse can only go as well as its rider allows it to.

Our horses respond to the rider's balance, position, leg aids, rein contact and overall understanding. They teach our riders that good riding isn't about kicking harder or pulling more — it's about learning to communicate effectively with the horse.

🐎 For our beginners, they provide a foundation to develop confidence, balance and coordination.

🎓 For our more experienced riders, they offer the opportunity to refine their aids, improve their accuracy and develop a more sophisticated understanding of flatwork and dressage.

🏆 For those working towards their next level, they can challenge riders to become more effective, feel the difference in their riding and appreciate what a correctly trained horse can offer.

Our horses have their own personalities, strengths and sensitivities. Learning to understand each individual horse is a huge part of becoming a better rider.

We don't believe in simply teaching people to sit on a horse and kick it along. We want to teach people to RIDE and communicate sympathetically with our horses.

And that's something we're incredibly proud to offer at Murton Equestrian Centre.

🐴 WHAT TO WEAR FOR YOUR RIDING LESSON AT MURTON EQUESTRIAN CENTRE?🐴

Getting ready for your first riding lesson? Don't worry — you don't need to buy a whole new riding wardrobe! 🤩

Here's our guide to making sure you're comfortable, safe and ready to enjoy your time in the saddle.

👖 LONG TROUSERS– Jodhpurs or comfortable riding leggings are ideal. Please avoid shorts and bulky jeans.

👢 SUITABLE FOOTWEAR– Riding boots with a small heel are best. Don't have any? No problem! **Boot hire is available for just £2.**

👕 COMFORTABLE CLOTHING– Wear a T-shirt or long-sleeved top, with a fleece or jacket during the colder months. Layers are perfect for our unpredictable North East weather!

⛑️ RIDING HAT– Safety first! If you don't have your own, riding hat hire is available for just **£2**.

🧤 GLOVES– We encourage all riders to wear gloves for comfort, grip and protection when handling the reins. Riding gloves are ideal.

💡 A FEW EXTRA TIPS:
🐴 Tie long hair back.
🐴 Avoid loose scarves and bulky accessories.
🐴 Arrive a little early, especially if it's your first visit, to give yourself time to get ready.

🐴 HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME A CONFIDENT HORSE RIDER?🐎

Have you ever wondered how many hours it takes to learn to ride? 🤔

Learning to ride is an exciting journey, and every rider progresses at their own pace! 💜

At Murton Equestrian Centre, we help riders build their skills, confidence and understanding of horses, one lesson at a time.

🌟 Your riding journey might look something like this:

🐴 0–10 hours: Getting started – learning to mount, balance, steer and stop safely.

🐴 10–30 hours:Building confidence – developing your balance, learning rising trot and improving control.

🐴 30–60 hours: Becoming more competent – improving transitions, steering and balance, and working towards canter when ready.

🐴 60–100+ hours: Developing proficiency – building an independent seat, consistent control and greater confidence in the saddle.

💡 Did you know? With one riding lesson per week, it could take around two years to reach 100 hours of riding!

Remember, these are only approximate guidelines. Everyone learns differently, and becoming a good rider is about much more than the hours spent in the saddle. Understanding horse behaviour, grooming, tacking up and caring for your horse are all important parts of becoming a knowledgeable horseperson. ❤️

Whether you are a complete beginner, returning to riding after a break, or looking to improve your existing skills, we have opportunities to help you progress.

October has arrived, and we've got a few exciting events coming up this month for riders of all ages and abilities 🍂🏇🐴

The Riding Centre is filling up fast, here's a wee sneak peak of what's coming up this month:

27th, 28th and 29th October - Loan a Pony Day Lead Rein and Walk Trot level £90

27th, 28th, 29th and 30th October - Loan a Pony Day Loose and above level £90

5th November - Take Back The Reins for 18yrs plus. Return to riding session in a relaxed enviroment - 4 sessions £170.
