The Reality of Overheads (What Clients Don't See) 💰
When a customer looks at a £50 or £60 grooming bill, they often think that money goes
straight into your pocket. You don't see the mountain of invisible costs required just to keep the
doors open and the clippers running.
The Setup & Utilities Water rates, electricity (dryers use massive
amounts of power), phone, and high-speed
internet to manage bookings.
Product & Hygiene Premium shampoos, conditioners, facial
washes, antiseptics, ear cleaners, cleaning
products, and the endless laundry costs for
clean towels.
Equipment & Maintenance Service charges for tables/blasters,
replacement costs for broken or damaged gear,
and uniform costs.
Professional Fees & Admin Accountant and bookkeeping fees, payment
card transaction fees, and charges just for
depositing cash.
Safety & Legalities Business insurances, continuous training, first
aid certifications, and health & safety
compliance.
The Tax Bite 26% total drag on your money (20% Income
Tax + 6% National Insurance).
plus the unpaid time i spend deep-cleaning the salon between
dogs, many groomers do indeed end up making close to or less than minimum wage.
We are trying to survive 📍 My prices reflect not just the time I spend with your dogs, but the cost of premium, safe products, fully serviced professional equipment,
continuous safety and first-aid training, and the extensive overhead required to run a safe,
insured salon. I refuse to compromise on the quality and safety of your pet's care to lower my
prices."
