Six weeks ago, we opened our doors for the first time.

Since then, we've been welcomed with more warmth, patience and support than we could have hoped for. From first appointments to familiar faces already becoming regulars. Thank you for that.

Today, we've had some humbling news: we've been shortlisted for East Midlands Independent Practice of the Year, after just six weeks in practice.

🐾 Meet the Team: Amelia, Registered Veterinary Nurse

We're so glad to have Amelia as part of the Nicholson Veterinary Centre team. In her own words:

"I qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in July 2025 from Harper Adams University. Since qualifying, I've continued to learn and develop my skills and have enjoyed exploring all aspects of nursing, from anaesthesia and critical care to emergency nursing and everything in between. I love that no two days are ever quite the same!

I'm excited to continue developing as a nurse at Nicholson Veterinary Centre, particularly in the areas of anaesthesia and analgesia, and hope to work towards completing my Anaesthesia Nursing Certificate. I would also like to progress to performing Schedule 3 procedures and, in the future, work towards becoming a Clinical Coach, supporting and inspiring the next generation of nurses. I hope to work towards achieving 'Zero Pain Practice' accreditation for the practice, helping us continue to provide the very best pain management and care for our patients.

I joined Conor and the lovely team at Nicholson Veterinary Centre when the practice first opened, and it has been amazing to be part of the journey from the very beginning. It has been so rewarding to watch the practice grow and thrive, and I'm excited to see what the future holds.

Outside of work, I enjoy hiking and walking in the Peak District with friends and family, running and cycling. As well as helping with some of the larger four-legged friends, including lambing in the springtime! I enjoy spending time in the countryside with my cheeky Jack Russell called Jim, who is rather mischievous and certainly keeps me on my toes."

A quick note ahead of the bank holiday weekend:

Our emergency line stays open throughout, and it's answered by our own team. If you need us, you'll be speaking to the same practice, and often the same faces, who already know you and your pet.

If your pet needs urgent attention over the bank holiday:

📞 Call 01636 351 115 and press 1 for emergencies
🩺 You'll be guided through next steps by our team, with access to your pet's history where needed

For anything that can wait, we're back to normal hours after the bank holiday and will be happy to help then.

Thank you for making our Open Day such a warm one! 🐾

We loved welcoming so many of you, and your pets, through our doors today! Meeting the local community, introducing you to the team, and showing you around the practice is exactly what Nicholson Veterinary Centre is all about.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, asked questions, and took the time to say hello. Days like this remind us why we do what we do.

Busy on both fronts today.

Between a full day of appointments, our team has also been getting the practice ready for tomorrow's Open Day. From our treatment and dental areas to the spaces where we monitor pets during procedures.

Tomorrow, you'll get to see it all for yourself. Join us Saturday 22 August, 10am–3pm, to look around, meet the team, and ask any questions about your pet's care. No need to book, just drop in.

Come and see Nicholson Veterinary Centre for yourself: from our welcome lounge to our calm, modern consulting rooms, The Puurfect Lounge (a quieter space just for cats), and our in-house facilities!

It's also a chance to meet Conor and the team, ask us anything, and get a feel for the practice before you need us.
