🐾 Please help us to be good neighbours 🐾

We know that dogs bark—it’s perfectly natural, and many of our visitors use the field because their dogs need somewhere private to relax and enjoy themselves.

However, sound can carry surprisingly well across the countryside, so we’re asking everyone to be especially mindful of our neighbours when visiting the field.

Please:

🐶 Don’t allow prolonged or continuous barking
🐶 Calm or redirect your dog if they become overexcited by people, animals or vehicles outside the field
🐶 Keep shouting, whistles and raised voices to a minimum
🐶 Don’t play loud music or sound vehicle horns
🐶 Switch off engines while parked and arrive and leave as quietly as possible
🐶 End your session early if your dog becomes distressed or cannot settle

Occasional barking and happy dog noises are completely understandable—we’re simply asking everyone to help prevent noise from becoming prolonged or excessive.

Thank you for helping us protect the peaceful, private environment that makes Frank’s Freedom Field so special. 💚

🍂 Hello Autumn! 🍂

As we head into autumn, we wanted to explain a few seasonal changes—particularly for those of you who have only discovered Frank’s Freedom Field since the spring.

🌧️ Flooding and advance bookings

Our location means there is a higher risk of flooding during autumn and winter. Although we monitor conditions closely and close the field whenever necessary, the weather and river levels can be unpredictable.

From 1st October, our booking calendar will therefore change to allow bookings only four weeks in advance. This reduces the likelihood of customers having bookings cancelled because of flooding.

🌙 Shorter opening hours

As we lose the daylight, our evening opening hours will also reduce. From October to March, the field will be open:

Monday–Friday: 7am–5.30pm
Saturday: 7am–4pm
Sunday: 8am–4pm

🌱 Longer grass

We deliberately stop cutting the grass relatively early—usually around late September or early October. Leaving it slightly longer helps protect the ground and reduce the amount of mud during the wetter months.

💦 Splash trays

The splash trays have now been removed and put away for the winter. They’ll return when the warmer weather does next year!

Thank you for your understanding and for continuing to support us throughout every season. Autumn and winter may bring a little more mud and unpredictability, but there is still plenty of freedom-field fun to be had! 🐾🍁

The grass has been cut and the field is looking absolutely gorgeous again! 💚🐾

A little warning, though—it’s freshly cut and there are lots of wet grass clippings, so white clothing, white shoes and white dogs may not stay white for long! 😂

Please dress accordingly and be prepared to leave looking slightly greener than when you arrived! 💚

🌱 A little field update…

The rain over last few weeks has been very welcome and the grass is greening up nicely 😊
We won’t be cutting the field for the next couple of weeks. After such a long, dry summer, we’d like to give the grass time to recover fully and strengthen before it is cut again. Hopefully, this will give it the best possible chance of remaining lush and healthy throughout the winter. 💚

We also have several maintenance jobs to complete before winter arrives, so you may notice that we’ve blocked off a few weekends in the booking calendar. We probably won’t need all of them, but as we can’t predict the weather this far ahead, we’ve reserved several possible dates so we can choose the most suitable ones nearer the time.

If you would like a weekend slot that is currently showing as unavailable, please join the waitlist. You’ll then be notified automatically as soon as any of the reserved appointments are released.

Thank you for bearing with us while we give the field a little care and attention before winter! 🐾

I had a wonderful little trip to the field this evening 🥰

It reminded me that the field isn’t only helpful when you have dogs with different activity levels—it’s also a huge help when one of the humans can’t manage very much exercise! I could stroll around very slowly, sit down for most of the visit and still enjoy watching the dogs explore and burn off some energy at their own pace. It was so lovely to be back 💚

I also have to say how amazing our customers have been while I’ve been out of action. The water has been kept topped up, the poos have been picked up, and everyone has only taken the treats they needed for their own dogs—so there are even still some left! I’ll be replenishing them tomorrow 🐾

Phil has also managed a temporary fix on the shed roof to make it a little more waterproof. Once I’m allowed to lift and stretch again, I can help him tackle a more permanent fix—although, given our previous shed-building record, perhaps the temporary one is safer! 🤣

🐾 Treats in the shed! 🐾

For a limited time we have some complimentary dog treats in the storage shed for your dogs to enjoy! 🐶

Please only take the amount you need for the dog(s) you have with you, so there are plenty left for everyone. As always, please check the ingredients first to make sure they’re suitable for your dog.

A little reminder that, due to me having an operation, there will be nobody available to answer routine messages or emails until Monday. Phil will be holding the fort and can help if there is an urgent issue at the field (please refer to your reminder email for his number), but please use the links in your confirmation or reminder emails for any booking changes.

Thank you for your understanding — and I hope the dogs enjoy their treats! ❤️

We did it!! Phil and I built a shed! 🥳🔨

And even better… there were no trips to A&E and no visits to the divorce courts required 🤣🤣

Admittedly, we did manage to put the back panel on upside down — but we didn’t notice until we had put approximately a zillion screws into it, so it is staying that way! We’re calling it a unique design feature 😆

We still need to put the felt on the roof, but by that point we had completely run out of steam, so that is a job for another day.

One little practical note: at the moment, the door closes using a key. We’ll be replacing this with a bolt soon, but until then, please leave the key in the lock so it doesn’t wander off.

Not bad for two slightly exhausted amateur shed builders! 💪🤣

Tonight was a perfect reminder of just how valuable a fully enclosed dog field can be when you have more than one dog, particularly when they all have very different needs.

Earlier this week one of our dogs Yogi, had to be rushed to the emergency vets with an extremely high temperature and difficulty breathing, it turned out to be aspiration pneumonia. It was touch and go at one point but he finally started responding to treatment and was sent home late on Friday. He is under strict instructions to take it easy and only do gentle exercise while he recovers.

Tonight Yogi was able to come with us to the field and gently potter around at his own pace. He could walk when he felt able and lie down whenever he needed to rest, while the others had the freedom to run around and burn off some much-needed energy after spending several days at home because of the extreme heat and Yogi needing us close by.

The fresh air and change of scenery made a huge difference to him, and gently walking around also helps to get some of the phlegm moving. The wonderful thing about the field is that it’s completely unforced exercise — there’s no route to finish, no distance to cover and no pressure to keep up. Yogi could simply do as much or as little as he felt comfortable doing.

For multi-dog households, having somewhere enclosed where every dog can enjoy the same outing in their own way really is invaluable.

And, of course, it helps when the place you’re pottering around is this beautiful! 😍🐾

A little extra water stop in the shade 💦🐾

We’ve added another water bowl and water container right next to the willow tunnel, so dogs exploring the cooler, shadier side of the field can grab a drink without having to wander back across the field.

I’m not quite sure why I didn’t think of putting one here sooner! 🤦‍♀️😂 Thanks have to go to one of our fab customers Lisa Brown for suggesting it 😘

With the hot weather, we’re trying to make sure there are plenty of opportunities around the field for dogs to stop, cool down and have a drink — especially in the areas where they naturally head for some shade.

The willow tunnel is already one of my favourite little spots at the field, and now it has its own refreshment station too! 🌿🐕💧

As always, please feel free to top the bowl up from the container if it needs it. ❤️
