September is Pain Awareness Month!
This month, we’re focusing on something really important: learning to listen to what our pets are telling us about pain.
Our dogs and cats may not be able to tell us “that hurts”, but they communicate with us all the time. Changes in movement, behaviour, appetite, sleep, interaction and everyday routines can all be ways of saying “something isn't right.”
The challenge is learning to understand what they're telling us.
While Pain Awareness Month is directed at highlighting and understanding human pain, we will be looking at the different ways our pets communicate pain, the link between pain and behaviour, and why recognising these subtle changes can make such a difference to their comfort and quality of life.
They can tell us they're in pain. We just need to learn how to listen.
