Well… I still can’t quite believe I’m writing this.

Today Gwen and I won Novice Dog / Novice Handler at the working test.

And the crazy part?

This was only our second ever official working test.

When I got Gwen, I had no grand plans. Just a lovely Labrador to train, enjoy and hopefully have some fun with along the way. Like all dogs, we’ve had things we’ve found easy and things we’ve had to work through. Plenty of mistakes. Plenty of learning.

So to come away with a win today feels pretty special.

More than the result, I’m proud of the partnership we’ve built. The hours of training, the good days, the frustrating days, and all those little moments that nobody else sees.

A huge thank you to the organisers, Usk Valley, the judges and everyone who helped put on a fantastic day. And congratulations to everyone who took part.
And to our dear friend Sam Davis for winning open!!!

Tonight, Gwen is getting an extra cuddle… and I’ll probably still be smiling about it tomorrow.

Not a bad day for Team AC Gundogs.

Today Gwen and I stepped a little outside our comfort zone and entered a team working test.

I’d never done a team event before, didn’t know any of my teammates before the day, and we were working on completely new ground too.

Six tests later, plenty of laughs, some great teamwork, and we came away with a very respectable 5th place out of 18 teams.

More importantly, we met some lovely new people, made new friends, and had a genuinely great day out with our dogs.

Days like this remind me that sometimes it’s worth saying yes, even when it feels a little daunting.

This Saturday I'm running one of my Foundation Gundogs Training Days here at AC Gundogs and there are still a few spaces available.

This day is designed for retrievers, spaniels and HPRs that are at the beginning of their training journey, as well as handlers wanting to revisit and strengthen the foundations.

Because the truth is, everything else builds from this.

A solid recall.
A reliable retrieve.
Focus around distractions.

A dog that understands how to learn.

We'll spend the day working through practical exercises that you can continue at home, helping you build a stronger partnership with your dog and a clear path forwards in your training.

There’s something pretty special about watching dogs do what they were bred to do.

So Team AC Gundogs did it again but it was me this time 🖤

Little Gwenny came 2nd in her very first Kennel Club Working Test held by Mid Wales Gundog Society and I honestly couldn’t be prouder of her.

Still young, still learning, but she went out there, held herself together and gave it everything. That’s all I can ever ask for.

These moments are never just about placings. Its watching it slowly all start to come together.

Very proud of this little Labrador and excited for what’s still to come for her

Pretty proud of this today.

A friend and customer took my dog out competing today and they went and won 🥹

Honestly I think one of the nicest compliments as a trainer is when your dog can go out with somebody else and still do the job well.

Massive well done to them both. #❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

They’re back… and I’m honestly so excited to say it 🐾
Training days are officially returning to AC Gundogs.
Not just a quick session.
