We would like to congratulate our final-year veterinary students on successfully completing their clinical rotations. They are in the final week of their electives and have enjoyed meeting lots of you (in the beautiful weather🌞). We wish you every success and happiness in your future careers. 🎉

A heartfelt thank you also goes to our wonderful clients and patients. Your support, enthusiasm, and willingness to be involved in student teaching play a vital role in helping to train the next generation of veterinary surgeons. We literally could not do it without you!🐴🎓

Equine Influenza

Cases of equine influenza (flu) have been confirmed on the Wirral. Flu is a highly-contagious virus transmitted via respiratory droplets and often presents with coughing, fever (over 38.5C), nasal discharge and poor appetite.

If you note any symptoms of coughing, lethargy, fever or poor appetite in your horse, please contact our team on 0151 794 6199.

We recommend booster vaccinations for any horse who has not received a vaccination within the last six months as a precaution. If you'd like to book a vaccination for your horse, please call our team during office hours on 0151 794 6199 (8:30am-5pm Monday to Friday).

Biosecurity is essential for helping reduce spread, including hand washing, foot dipping and not sharing equipment between infected and non-infected horses.

What a fantastic afternoon we had at Aintree last Friday! ☀️🏇

A huge thank you to all of our wonderful horse owners who joined us for our Leahurst Equine client event. It was brilliant to see so many familiar faces and spend the afternoon sharing knowledge, catching up and enjoying such a great atmosphere together.

Our clinicians delivered some fantastic talks covering:
🐴 Parasitology
🐴 Gastric ulcers
🐴 Transporting sick and injured horses
🐴 Tendon injuries and rehabilitation
🐴 Foals- when to call the vet!

We’re recruiting! Join the Leahurst Equine team 🐴

We have an opportunity for a Temporary Accounts Administrator to join our wonderful, hardworking, friendly Equine Hospital administration team on a temporary basis for 3–6 months.

This role will provide important administrative and financial support within Leahurst Equine Hospital, helping with accurate invoicing, payment processing, insurance/admin queries, debt follow-up and excellent client care. The successful candidate will work closely with our clinical, nursing and administration teams to help keep our hospital accounts and administration processes running smoothly.

We’re looking for someone who is organised, confident with administration, has good attention to detail, and can communicate sensitively and professionally with clients.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience in a busy university equine hospital environment, working as part of a supportive and welcoming team.

📍 Leahurst Equine Hospital, Neston
⏰ temporary post: 3–6 months
💼 Accounts / administration / customer service focus
⏰working hours - ideally fulltime between the hours of 8-6pm but will consider part time applicants.

⚠🐴💉Equine Influenza (Flu) Confirmed UK Cases 💉🐴⚠

In April, there has been 35 confirmed Equine Influenza (Flu) cases in the UK with 2 being from the Merseyside region. Although none have been confirmed on the Wirral or Cheshire yet, the flu virus can spread by cough droplets on the wind up to 2km away.

Fortunately, vaccination remains the most important way to decrease the risk of flu. It is therefore advisable to make sure your horse is up to date with their vaccine schedule, particularly if they are considered more vulnerable.

Today marks World Veterinary Day and we wanted to celebrate all our outstanding team that support the veterinary profession. From our veterinarians out on the road who will attend day or night for all different needs, to our hospital team where all the vets and vet nurses work tirelessly. All our team are exceptionally passionate and strive to provide the best, most compassionate care. 💛

This week marks Veterinary Receptionist Week and we wanted to join the support and appreciation for our team. They work tirelessly throughout the day, from booking appointments, sorting out prescriptions, and of course chasing the vets when they need an extra poke! (as well as everything else!) 😆

We are very proud of the whole team and wanted to recognise their importance in our day to day work. We literally couldn't function without them so a massive thank you to each of them! 🥰
