We've had the pleasure of caring for Barney today.

Barney has been suffering from a condition affecting his knee, known as a luxating patella (kneecap). See, patellae should stay in their lane, but sometimes they don't. A luxating patella is when the kneecap moves out of the groove it's supposed to live in and causes all sorts of problems.

Fortunately for Barney, vet Jenny used her orthopaedic expertise to provide a surgical solution. Following his surgery at Needham Market Vet Centre today, Barney will have a period of recovery and physiotherapy. All being well, his troublesome patella should now stay exactly where it's supposed to be from here on out.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, Barney!

Have a lovely weekend. If you need us, our team will be available at Bury as usual, including Needham regulars Adam, Simon and Anna.

Join reception dog, Scruffs for his dental procedure today.

Don't worry - Scruffs is absolutely fine! Kirsty booked him in for a routine procedure to assess his oral health and treat as necessary. Allow me to lift the screen and show you exactly what happens behind the scenes.

Photography is never anywhere near the top of the priority list for the team when caring for our patients. Unfortunately, that means these photos really don't do the best job showcasing the care, compassion and expertise I'm proud to witness the entire team showing on a daily basis.

We don't take your trust for granted and understand that leaving your pet in our hands for any procedure can be worrying. I hope this gives you a flavour of the care they receive during their time with us. We are of course always happy to answer any questions you may have.

Best bunny Boudica is our ANA's (and soon to be our very first Student Nurse!) Bun and she has been a little under the weather. Here she is having a nebuliser to help her out.

Good news is, like her namesake, she is one tough fighter and feeling better already!

We look forward to watching her conquer!

If you need help over the weekend, the team at Bury including our very own Nat are on call 24/7, 365.

Beautiful Blue and Moon joined us for surgical procedures recently.

I'm sure you'll agree that they are strikingly attractive cats.

These photos were taken minutes after waking up from their general anaesthetics. With the help of some powerful pain relief to ensure their comfort, they were up and about and back to their mischievous ways in no time.

🐈‍⬛We are hiring- Veterinary Surgeon, Needham Market, Suffolk🐩

🐾 38h, 4 days week for full time or part time options on offer

🐾40-65k DOE

🐾Independent, locally owned, small animal practice

We are new and expanding thanks to the lovely people of Stowmarket, Needham Market and surrounds who have given us the privilege to care for their pets. Therefore, we have a vacancy for a new vet at Needham Market Veterinary Centre.

A little about us - we are proudly independent - being owned by Jenny, Adam and Carly and been open 18 months. We are currently 2 vets in the building most days with Nat and Adam being the Needham "full-timers" and then the team from our sister practice (Bury St Edmunds Veterinary Centre) covering any days off and holiday etc. We are therefore a small and perfectly formed, yet very experienced team. And we will 100% be staying independent too! We are all in our 30's and not going anywhere!

We have all the kit you could possibly want and a really interesting and diverse caseload. Dental x-rays come as standard on all dental packages, echo's are performed in house, we can do everything from the wellness to the TPLO's and the GDV's!

The nursing team is also super experienced, and the front of house is the best in the business. We all genuinely get on, have socials and like each other. Perfect, we aren't, and we accept our flaws and are constantly bettering ourselves, but we live by the motto of "do great work, with great people, for great people" and that has seemed to serve us well across both of our 2 sites since we opened Bury in 2019.

As this is a Needham vacancy (oddly, if you are interested in Bury or like the ECC / OOH stuff- we have an exceedingly rare advert out there for an experienced vet - so please check that out), there is no weekday OOH rota as the BSEVC team cover that for us. But all we ask is willingness to go on the weekend rota (1 in 6 or 7 ish weekends, either days or night on call depending on your preference) at BSEVC. Other than that, this is a mon-friday post, and we can accommodate full or part timers. We just ask that you have at least 2 years' experience, other than that, the main thing is that you are a good fit with the team.

In exchange we have all of the usual kit. And we are not a "branch" practice. We are a fully functioning, fully kitted out, all singing, all dancing practice. Give enhanced maternity and sick pay, the best salary bracket we can possibly afford, BUPA cashplan healthcare, unlimited CPD, funded certificates, and all the usual stuff. Just all wrapped up in a bow of employers who are working alongside you, genuinely care, and a seriously fabulous team.

If you want to know more, please email us in complete confidentiality at [email protected] to either apply or ask questions!

A success story for you all this Friday.

Gentle giant, Hugo came to visit us for his annual health check and vaccination a couple of months ago. All seemed well at home, and his carers had no major concerns. However, all did not feel well when vet, Adam palpated Hugo's abdomen during his physical examination.

Unfortunately, there was something in there that shouldn't have been. Something that set alarm bells ringing. Hugo was admitted the following day for abdominal and thoracic ultrasound and X-rays to investigate. A melon sized tumour was found on his spleen, but reassuringly, there was no evidence of spread elsewhere.

An urgent surgery at our practice in Needham Market was then scheduled to remove the tumour before it had chance to rupture and bleed. Under RVN Keira's watchful eye on the anaesthetic, Hugo's spleen and associated mass were carefully removed. The lab confirmed that the mass was unlikely to spread elsewhere. A success!

After visiting our nurses several times for a wound healing complication, Hugo has made a complete recovery and is back to living a full life. He has since returned for his booster vaccination.

Hugo's story had a good outcome thanks to his family's proactive approach to his health. So many problems are best addressed as early as possible - a lesson we can apply to both ourselves, and our pets.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Congratulations on an incredible weight loss journey, Rexy!

Rexy and her family have been visiting our registered veterinary nurse, Ayla for regular weight loss clinics. After a whole year of dedication from Rexy's carers, and Ayla's careful guidance and support, she has lost a life changing amount of weight.

Having a professional on board to advise, encourage and check in with on a regular basis can make all the difference when it comes to achieving weight loss goals. Our team of compassionate registered veterinary nurses are standing by to help, if you and your pet need it.

Have a wonderful weekend. The team at Bury will be available 24 hours as always, including Needham's own Adam and Ayla for any overnight emergencies.

Do all pets develop super hearing when the treat bag is opened, or the cheese comes out of the fridge? My terrier certainly seems to... or perhaps she's selectively deaf the rest of the time!

We make very generous use of all sorts of treats at Needham Vets. Even some of our most nervous patients can be won over or distracted by something tasty, allowing us to use compassionate, gentle handling.

Evie and Lyla are behind the reception desk, showing us how it's done.

Mud season is nearly back! But we are all enjoying the last few days of summer before declaring it sweater season!

No matter what mischief you pet manages to make this weekend, our team at Bury are ready and waiting to handle all! This weekend featuring our very own vet Nat. We are here for you 24/7, whatever the weather!

🐕 We have a very rare vacancy for an RVN. At either Bury or Needham, Suffolk 🐈‍⬛

🐾 Independent practice

🐾 £28-35k DOE

🐾 38h FT 4day week, or PT minimum 24h

🐾Uncapped CPD, RCVS fees, pension, BUPA cashplan and wellbeing initiatives

🐾 1 in 8 weekends

It is not a very common occurrence that I get to write a job advert for an RVN as we have an incredibly low turnover of staff in the nursing team and as such positions are seldom available. However, we have a vacancy due to internal promotion and one of our nurses dropping some hours to pursue her side-passion of teaching, so we are looking forward to welcoming a new face to the team. Due to the flexibility we have within the team this could either be at our Bury St Edmunds hospital, or potentially at Needham Market due to the growth and expansion we have had there.

A little about us, and what makes us a bit unusual… We are not only independent, we are fiercely so. We aren’t going to sell out. We have a super team that has grown organically to a powerhouse of over 50 across the 2 practices, they are the most talented and caring individuals I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and working alongside. The nursing team is, in particular, something to behold. Their strength, depth, positivity and levels of care are genuinely spectacular. We have cert holders in ECC, exotics and imaging and soon to be medicine, dentistry and anaesthesia within the RVN team. We have people who lecture at BVNA and we have ex-BVNA council members. They are efficient and diligent and keep us vets on track in a fabulous way

We have a motto of "do great work, with great people, for great people" and we sincerely care about our team. We look after people under our roof and offer unlimited CPD, BUPA cash plan, certificates encouraged, monthly counselling sessions, 4 day week (+ time back for working a weekend), excellent clinical standards, and the best clients you could wish for. Our nurses NURSE, there is no reception duties, we have a great team of ANA's who support the RVN team, and 2 awesome SVNs.

Our RVN's have a friendly rota of 38 hrs a week over 4 days, with a mix of early's, late's, long and short days at Bury. Needham is just short and long days. There is a share of OOH available to people who want it, and it comes with an extra financial bonus and an additional bonus system for additional money or time off, but we have so many people currently clambering for shifts OOH, it is not an absolute deal breaker for this particular hire. Fair share of weekends is needed, but it works out as half a weekend (days or nights) every 8 weeks ish. Plus, our OOH is only for our clients, so pretty comfortable and means you can deliver the best possible care. I appreciate this sounds quite complex, but we have the luxury of being able to offer a rather large degree of flexibility with this role, so please just get in touch if you would like more information!

Essentially, we are looking for a qualified RVN, who has a real "can do" attitude, is a team player, and has the same goals of fixing pets to the best of their ability alongside a great team. Everything else is a bonus. We are keen to find the right fit for our team rather than a fit for prescribed hours.

If you are interested, please contact us (Jenny & Carly) at [email protected] with your CV and cover letter and we can take it from there. All applications will be treated in the strictest confidence.
