Good evening folks, the end of a dull October week, the weekend has arrived so allow us to brighten up your weekend 🥰

We’ve had lots of deliveries this week, following our recent stock take, the shelves are jam packed with lots of goodies for your fish, plenty of Sera foods, Seachem products aswell as an extensive Fluval and Superfish range too 🤝

A nicely stocked fish house too with plenty to suit everyones tastes to wet your appetites for this weekend aswell 🐠

Koi Angelfish - Pterophyllum Scalare 🐠

A really beautiful and vibrant colour form of Angelfish we currently have in stock, and as you can see, extremely interactive (and this was taken yesterday, after feeding time) 👌🏼

Angels have a little bit of a bad rap for being “really aggressive” but in reality, if the tankmates are chosen correctly, they’re generally fairly peaceful within reason. A large tank, heavily planted with some stunning adults, look fantastic 😍

Spotted Congo Puffer - Tetraodon Schoutedeni 🐡

Tetraodon schoutedeni, commonly known as the Congo spotted puffer, is a small freshwater pufferfish native to the Congo River Basin in Central Africa. It typically grows to around 9 cm in length and is recognised by its rounded body, large expressive eyes, and distinctive dark spots across a pale yellow or cream-coloured background much like its much larger cousin, the Mbu Puffer but at a much more manageable size! 🥺

Unlike many pufferfish, it is generally considered peaceful and can be suitable for a carefully planned community aquarium. It thrives in warm, clean, well-maintained freshwater and benefits from a varied diet of snails, crustaceans, and other meaty foods to support its health and natural behaviour.

Discus - Symphysodon Aequifasciatus

Arguably the most attractive freshwater species available in the market, Discus are always extremely popular amongst aquarists worldwide, and when you see an adult in full colour, you can completely understand why 😍

Discus also have a reputation of being extremely difficult to keep, which is not always strictly true based on my experiences with them, providing a few key factors, such as 30c water temperature, and multiple feedings per day, are achieved, these can be very successfully kept and nurtured.

A key term i like to use for the keeping of Discus is “less is more” but as always, if you’d like to know more then please do feel free to pop in for a chat 😁

A very small snippet of whats available this weekend for you beautiful lot.. some real cracking and fascinating species in house at LVA this weekend! 👌🏼

A small top up fish delivery arrived this week with some beautiful Rainbowfish on it, Twig Cats and Rathbuns Bloodfin Tetra, both of which we havent had for a while plus a few other odds and ends to compliment the rest of our stocks ✌🏼

🇨🇺 Cuban Gar - Atractosteus Tristoechus

The Cuban gar, as it name suggests, is endemic to Cuba, inhabiting rivers, lakes, and swamps. It belongs to the family Lepisosteidae and is characterised by its elongated body, long snout, sharp teeth, and armour-like scales.

It is a predatory species that feeds mainly on fish and other small aquatic animals so must only be housed with tank mates that can not be eaten.

The species is extremely rare and hard to find within the aquarium industry, even more so within the UK so to have one of these finally here, im extremely pleased about!

🐡 South American Pufferfish - Colomesus Asellus

Colomesus asellus, also known as the Amazonian pufferfish or South American pufferfish is a small freshwater puffer, native to the Amazon River basin in South America.

It has a rounded body, large eyes, and distinctive dark bands across its yellowish body. This fish typically grows to around 10–12 centimetres long and inhabits rivers, streams, and flooded forests and is always extremely active with bags of character.

It feeds on small invertebrates, crustaceans, using its strong teeth to crush hard-shelled prey. But on captivity will feed happily on bloodworm aswell as pest snails to keep their teeth in check ✅

Like other pufferfish, it can inflate its body when threatened. The Amazonian pufferfish is active, curious, and can be kept withon community aquaria given the right tank mates 😍

Good evening guys and girls, the end of another week (stock take week to be precise) and into the weekend we go 🤪

No new fish this week, but still have plenty to wet an appetite. Whatever you’re in the market for im sure we’ve got something for you 🙏🏼

As i mentioned, we’ve had stock take this week.. but we still had time for a couple cheeky top up deliveries earlier today, plenty of plants back in stock aswell as loads of dry goods, frozen and live foods too 💪🏼

🟡 Lemon Fin Barb - Hypsibarbus Wetmorei

Hypsibarbus wetmorei, commonly known as the lemon-fin barb or golden belly barb, is a freshwater fish in the carp family, Cyprinidae

🇹🇭 It is native to river systems across mainland Southeast Asia, including the Mekong, Chao Phraya, Maeklong, and Malay Peninsula.

📏 The species has a robust, deep body, reddish-brown upper body, and reddish-orange pelvic and a**l fins and can grow to about 25cm in length so a large aquarium is needed. Can work extremely well in large predatory set ups as they can help tidy up the scraps the predators leave!

Red Fin Spiny Eel - Mastacembelus sp. Red Fin

Mastacembelus sp. ‘Red Fin’ is a striking freshwater spiny eel from the Mastacembelidae family. It is named for its distinctive reddish-orange coloration on the dorsal, a**l and caudal fins and generally grow to around 10-12”

Like other spiny eels, it is primarily nocturnal and spends much of the day hiding in sand, caves or dense vegetation. It is generally peaceful but may prey on small fish, shrimp!

A spacious, well-filtered aquarium with a soft sandy substrate, hiding places and secure cover is essential, as these eels are excellent escape artists. Their diet typically includes earthworms, bloodworms as seen, prawns and other meaty foods too! 🪱
