🐾 A Wonderful Update on Toby! 🐾

When we recently welcomed Toby to Pawcation, we explained that he was very nervous of new people and needed plenty of time and patience before he would feel confident enough to go for a walk without his human mummy and daddy.

Well, that very day, Toby decided he trusted me enough to take him for his first walk—and he happily came out with me again the following day! 💙

We built up to this slowly and followed a plan completely at Toby’s pace:

🐾 For the first three days, I spent 15 minutes at his home with Toby and his mummy and daddy—giving him cuddles, practising commands with treats and allowing him to become comfortable with me.

🐾 For the next two visits, we went on 30-minute walks with his daddy. On the first walk, his daddy held the lead while I joined them. On the second, I took over the lead halfway through.

🐾 The following week, Toby was booked in with just me. For the first two days, we enjoyed playing and doing enrichment activities in the garden.

Then, on day three, Toby decided he was ready—and confidently came out for a walk with me! He did so well that he came out again the very next day. 🐶👏

This is such a lovely result and shows what can be achieved when a nervous dog is given time, patience and the opportunity to build trust without being rushed.

At Pawcation, we always adapt our care to the individual dog and allow them to progress at their own pace. Well done, gorgeous Toby—I’m so proud of you! 💙🐾

🐾 Pet First Aid Tip of the Week – Acorn Alert! 🌳

Acorns are beginning to fall at this time of year, so it’s important to be aware of the risk they can pose to dogs.

Acorns may look harmless, but they contain tannins that can be toxic to dogs. They can also cause choking or an intestinal blockage if swallowed.

Signs to watch for include:

🐾 Vomiting or diarrhoea
🐾 Drooling
🐾 Loss of appetite
🐾 Tummy pain
🐾 Low energy

If you see your dog eat an acorn, contact your vet for advice—don’t wait for symptoms to appear and don’t try to make them sick yourself.

Keep a close eye on dogs who like to scavenge, particularly beneath oak trees.

Would you know what to do in a pet emergency?

🐾 Pet First Aid Level 2 (VTQ) – £60 per person

🐾 A three-year Pet First Aid Level 2 (VTQ) certification

🐾 A downloadable Pet First Aid manual
🐾 Helpful refresher videos

🐾 Pet First Aid Essentials – £35 per person

The same course content and practical training, without the test or qualification. A minimum of two people is required. Ideal for pet owners and pet professionals who want to refresh their skills between qualifications.

🐾 Welcome to Pawcation, Toby! 🐾

We’re delighted to welcome the lovely Toby to the Pawcation family. 💙

Toby is a little nervous around new people and needs time to build trust before he feels confident going for a walk without his human mummy and daddy.

For now, our visits are spent enjoying playtime in the garden, lots of enriching sniff work and, of course, plenty of cuddles! As Toby’s confidence grows, we’ll gently progress towards going out for walks together—all at his own pace.

Time, patience and understanding are things we have plenty of at Pawcation. Every dog is an individual, and we will always adapt our care to meet their particular needs.

Welcome to Pawcation, gorgeous Toby—we’re looking forward to seeing your confidence blossom! 🐶🐾💙

💙💚 PAWCATION PET FIRST AID TIP OF THE WEEK 💚💙

⚠️ BLUE-GREEN ALGAE CAN BE FATAL TO DOGS❗️

Blue-green algae has recently been confirmed at several locations around Lake Windermere. During warm weather, it can also develop in lakes, ponds, reservoirs and slow-moving water closer to home.

It may look like green paint, pea soup, surface scum or grass cuttings.

Never allow your dog to swim in or drink from suspicious water. They can also swallow the toxins when licking contaminated fur.

Signs of poisoning include:

❗ Vomiting or diarrhoea
❗ Drooling or weakness
❗ Breathing difficulties
❗ Tremors, seizures or collapse

🚨 If exposed, stop your dog licking its coat, rinse it thoroughly with clean water and contact a vet immediately—even if no symptoms are showing. Do not make your dog vomit unless instructed by a vet.

Blue-green algae poisoning can progress extremely quickly.
