Just another day behind the scenes...

A toy box tidy-up was long overdue, so today I've been sorting through all the toys, saying goodbye to any that are looking a little worse for wear, and replacing them with lovely new ones.

The ball pit has had a refresh too! Almost every ball has been swapped out for shiny new ones (I left four of the old favourites behind... just in case they're someone's lucky balls! πŸ˜‚).

It might seem like a small job, but it's one of those little things that makes a big difference.

Whether a dog wants to play before their groom, unwind afterwards, or take a little break during their appointment, I want them to have clean, safe, enriching toys to enjoy.

It's all part of creating a calm, welcoming space where dogs can feel comfortable, have fun and simply enjoy being here.

Not every part of grooming involves scissors and shampoo... sometimes it's toy box duty!

Can you guess which toy is usually the first one to disappear?

πŸ† Winner – Business Elite Awards 2026
Best Behaviour-Led Dog Grooming Service

This award means so much more to me than simply receiving a trophy.

It's recognition that behaviour-led, force-free, compassionate grooming isn't a niche idea anymore - it's a professional standard that is gaining the recognition it deserves.

For years, many of us have championed an approach that puts the dog's emotional wellbeing alongside the quality of the groom. We've adapted our techniques, listened to what dogs are telling us, worked at their pace, celebrated the small wins, and shown that kindness and excellent grooming go hand in hand.

To see behaviour-led grooming recognised with an award like this feels like a milestone - not just for me, but for every groomer who has chosen empathy over force, understanding over compliance, and trust over speed.

I'm incredibly proud that my little business has been recognised, but I'm even more excited about what this says about our industry. Times are changing. Clients are asking more questions. Dogs are being heard. And behaviour-led, holistic, force-free grooming is earning its rightful place within our profession.

To every client who has trusted me with their dogs - especially those who have struggled elsewhere - thank you. To every dog who has taught me to slow down, listen and learn, thank you. You are the reason I do this.

And to my fellow behaviour-led groomers... this one's for all of us. Here's to continuing to raise standards, change perceptions, and prove that kindness is never the "soft option" - it's skilled, it's professional, and it's worth celebrating.

Thank you to the Business Elite Awards for this incredible honour. Here's to the future of dog grooming. ❀️🐾

The wait is finally over... Dog's Dinner Part 2 has arrived!

After the episode with my brother's dog a few months ago, I finally got the kick up the backside I needed to reopen the case and finish writing the long-awaited sequel.

If you enjoyed the first instalment, you'll know this investigation has been simmering away for a while. Sometimes it takes a real-life reminder to reignite your curiosity and get back to uncovering the evidence.

The most successful grooming appointment isn't always the one that ends with a perfect haircut.

Sometimes, it's the one where your dog leaves feeling more confident than when they arrived.

I know that might sound strange in a world full of flawless before-and-after photos, but that's exactly what behaviour-led grooming looks like.

Every dog arrives with their own story.

Their age.

Their health.

Their previous grooming experiences.

The way they feel about being handled.

How they cope in a new environment.

That's why I don't offer a one-size-fits-all grooming service.

Instead, we start with a Meet & Treat, where I get to know your dog before asking anything of them. Together, we'll build a plan that's based on 𝘺𝘰𝘢𝘳 dog - not an appointment slot.

For some dogs, that might mean short, regular confidence-building sessions.

For others, it could be a split groom, home grooming tuition, or a complete Reset Programme to rebuild trust from the ground up.

Because the goal isn't to tick "full groom" off the list.

The goal is to help your dog feel safe enough that grooming becomes something they can cope with - not something they have to endure.

Sometimes the biggest success isn't finishing the groom.

It's making sure your dog is ready for the next one

Ready to stop chasing the perfect groom and start building your dog's confidence instead?

Book a Meet & Treat, and together we'll create a personalised grooming plan based on your dog's history, personality and needs - whether that's confidence-building sessions, a split groom, home grooming tuition or a complete Reset Programme.

Because the best grooming plan is the one that works for your dog. 🐾

The latest edition of π˜›π˜’π˜ͺ𝘭𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘡𝘩𝘦 𝘜𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘀𝘡𝘦π˜₯ is about to land, and this month's investigations are shaping up to be some of my favourites yet.

In this issue, I'll be:

πŸ”Ž Interrogating the full groom. Has the expectation that every dog should leave the salon perfectly groomed become the biggest unsolved case in our industry?

πŸ”Ž I explore the possibility of a new service involving professional groomers rather than dogs.

🌿 Come and tend the sensory garden with me... 🌿

Grab a watering can and let's spend a few peaceful moments in one of my favourite places. πŸ’š

Behind every wagging tail enjoying the sensory garden is a fair bit of watering, w**ding, sweeping, brushing and disinfecting to keep everything looking beautiful, safe and ready for curious noses.

Every plant has been chosen because it's dog-friendly and brings something a little different. We have creeping thyme, purple sage, rosemary, blackcurrant sage, oregano, lemon balm, winter jasmine, ornamental grasses and bamboo.

Some are wonderfully fragrant, encouraging dogs to slow down and sniff, while others offer different textures to brush past, explore and experience. It's all part of creating an enriching space where dogs can relax, engage their senses and simply enjoy being dogs.

I love these quiet moments spent looking after the garden. It might not be the most glamorous part of the job, but seeing dogs make the most of it makes every watering and every w**d w**ded worth it. 🌿🐾

What's your favourite plant in your garden at the moment?

🐾 Reasons to follow or unfollow me 🐾

I believe... every dog deserves to feel safe, understood and listened to - and that grooming should be about so much more than just making them look pretty.

I don't believe... in "nasty" or "evil" dogs. I believe there is always a reason behind the behaviour, even if they're currently trying to remove my fingers.

I very rarely... wear make-up, use filters or AI-generated images. My lips are tattooed, my face is my face, and what you see is what you get.

I hate... groomers slagging off other groomers. We're all learning, we're all human, and there's room for different approaches without tearing each other down.

I would absolutely love to... adopt a rescue spaniel. I'm currently warming up my husband to the idea... give it a couple of years.

I usually... end the day with a good book and cuddle with my dog. πŸ“–

LOVE... a good cup of tea, and my current obsession is Yorkshire Tea Biscuit Brew. πŸͺβ˜•οΈ

Aversive methods, e-collars and dominance theory have no place in the canine world. I believe dogs deserve training and care built on understanding, trust, choice and positive reinforcement.

I am learning how... to be the best advocate I can be for the dogs in my care; learning to listen to what they're telling me, respect their boundaries and make sure their voices are heard.

So if you're here for dog grooming, enrichment, behind-the-scenes chaos, questionable photography, sensory gardens, tea-fuelled ramblings and a woman who gets disproportionately excited about anything dog-related...

Welcome. πŸΎπŸ’—

Paw & Order: Case #002

My husband bought these dog wipes because they were cheap...

In my official capacity, I assumed I'd be arresting them on the spot.

Then I checked the ingredients... πŸ•΅οΈπŸΎ

We all do it...

We see "natural", "gentle", or "sensitive" on the front of the packet and assume the product must be kind to our dog's skin.

But I know the real clues are usually hidden in the ingredient list.

So, I put these wipes through my W.I.P.E. Test...

πŸ•΅οΈ W – What's the fragrance?
πŸ•΅οΈ I – Is the preservative skin-friendly?
πŸ•΅οΈ P – Does it protect the skin?
πŸ•΅οΈ E – Is it evidence-based for the job?

The verdict?

βœ… No added fragrance.
βœ… No MI/MCI preservatives.
βœ… Skin-supporting ingredients like glycerin, aloe vera and panthenol.
βœ… A gentle cleanser instead of harsh sulphates.

For once, my husband's "that'll do" purchase actually passed the investigation!

The biggest lesson?

Don't judge a product by its price or the claims on the front. Judge it by the ingredients on the back.

πŸ“Œ Save this post so you can remember the W.I.P.E. Test the next time you're shopping for pet wipes.
