A few of my clients have mentioned that their dogs found it difficult to switch off at home after spending the day at daycare. They also struggled to settle during the day when their owners were working from home.

For some, their dogs had become more comfortable with being left alone for a few hours, so it no longer made sense for them to spend the whole day at daycare.

This is why some of my clients have swapped daycare for lunchtime group walks instead.

Their dogs still get exercise, social interaction and the chance to explore, but without spending the whole day in a busy environment. When I drop them home, they can then have some proper downtime and sleep off all of the fun!

For some owners, it also means a lower weekly cost than full-day daycare.

If your dog’s needs have changed as they’ve got older, a lunchtime group walk could be a better fit.

Happy National Black Dog Day 🖤

Black dogs (and black cats) often get overlooked in rehoming centres. That’s one of the reasons National Black Dog Day was created, to encourage people to look past their colour.

I’m lucky enough to walk and care for lots of lovely black dogs, so today is a good excuse to give them a little extra appreciation.

Something I regularly get asked is whether there’s a minimum number of walks that a client needs to book each week…

No, there’s not!

I offer ad-hoc walks as well because not everyone needs regular, weekly walks. Sometimes you just need the occasional bit of help with walking your dog, and that’s where I can step in.

The recent rain has had me thinking about last winter and how we can prepare for this winter.

If you have a dog that gets really muddy, it could be worth investing in a coat for winter. I personally recommend Equafleece fleece or summer suits, or Rydale’s zip-up alternatives. Mikki Pet’s Doodle Coat is designed specifically for Poodle crossbreeds, with a silk lining to prevent tangles and knots.
