Discover Amazonia Scotland's Indoor Tropical Rainforest packed full of exotic plants and animals! Each day we have various animal feeds and talks for you to come along to.

Discover Amazonia, situated within M&D's at Strathclyde Park, is Scotland's only indoor tropical rainforest, packed full of exotic plants and animals. Come along and see Forest and Poppy our two Kinkajous as well as Blue and Jewel our Blue and Gold Macaws. We house around 70 different species of animals, from frogs and snakes, to tarantulas and monkeys and many more! These talks are a great way to

learn about some of the animals we house here. The talks we have are our monkey feeding talk, nocturnal feed talk, and on Sundays our snake feeding talk. Join us for our daily animal handling sessions, at 11.30am, 1pm and 3pm (subject to change and with extra times added during busy periods) where you can get the chance to meet and greet various animals such as snakes, geckos, hissing cockroaches, tarantulas and more! Animal handling can be booked on arrival for ยฃ1.25 per person (under 3's are free, three animals are shown each session, specific species cannot be guaranteed). Throughout the year we will also be hosting additional events to support other wildlife charities, and help you learn more about the natural world. Here's a little update and more information on the leafcutter ant queens that arrived with us a month ago...

In the wild, fewer than one in 10,000 queens that leave their nests make it to the point of having a colony, the rest die. These ants are collected by the truck load and eaten.

Our queens will have nearly a 50% success rate without affecting the numbers of colonies where they come from at all, which is fantastic!

In the areas we collect these from, the farmers spray insectcide sprays which kills everything. So we are trying to help the farmers become organic by paying them to remove rather than spray.
