Hi all, I've found myself with a bit more time thanks to a broken leg... (sustained when not with a dog!). Thought I'd pop on here for anyone who is still Christmas shopping for their pup and link my favourite small-business and eco-friendly dog brands 👇

For anyone interested in what I’m doing at the moment, I managed to get corralled into this at the Guide Dogs Dun Day 😂

Thanks for sending this to me, Mireille!

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to share a quick update about Green Paw. I’ll be pausing the business for the next 18 months while I take on a contract with Guide Dogs and some freelance ecology work. I’ll still be checking my work phone periodically until 21st November to support current clients, running my planned September How to Train Your Dog classes, and I may pop a message in local Facebook groups if a few days open up around the freelance work (there’s not much call for ecologists in winter!).

I’ve been so grateful to work with so many amazing people and dogs over the years. Green Paw isn’t closing, just being carefully ticked over – and I’m very much looking forward to coming back in the future.

If you have any questions, please message me or pop them down below.

Thanks so much for all your support!

Ad | If you're looking for a direct recommendation, I'm a proud ambassador for Hoddy's Dog Food (Premium Sustainable Dog Food) due to how they source their meat (discount link in bio).

Hoddy’s uses British wild game (specifically pheasant and venison) that would otherwise go to waste. These proteins are naturally lean, highly nutritious, and far lower in environmental impact than intensively farmed meat.
Even better:

🦴 They use leftovers from game processing to cut food waste
🌿 Their pheasant is British Game Assurance certified – ethical, traceable, and countryside-friendly
📦 They keep food miles low and work with sustainable delivery partners

If you’re ready to take one easy step towards a more sustainable bowl, Hoddy’s is a brilliant place to start. I have a 20% off code in my bio if you'd like to take a look.

Happy to answer questions or share my own experience, just drop a comment below!

Starting the week as I mean to go on.

Getting outdoors, sniffing and taking in the fresh air... well, one of us is sniffing and the other is taking in the fresh air. 🥰

What are your weekly plans?

Tired of apologising for paw prints and flying leaps at the front door?

Here’s how to teach calmer greetings:

1. Pre-visit practice: Start without guests. Practise your dog sitting calmly while someone “arrives” (open and close the door, step in and out). Reward the sit every time.

2. Baby gates or leads: Manage space so your dog doesn’t get overwhelmed or rehearse the jump. This gives them a moment to think, not react.

3. Real guests = training opportunity: Ask visitors to ignore your dog until paws are on the floor. Only reward calm behaviours (sit, four paws down, or choosing to wait).

4. Keep greetings low key: No high-pitched “hellos” until your dog has settled. Your energy sets the tone.

With consistency and kindness, your dog can learn that being calm gets the cuddles.

What could you change about your dog's routine when visitors knock? 👇

Please join me in congratulating this brainbox on completing her Dependable Dog programme.

Her family have an exciting move planned, and decided to launch this fresh start by delving into why she didn’t like some dogs, and how to help her feel neutral around them going forward.

As always with emotions around other dogs, her training has been a two-pronged attack; focusing on both building confidence and teaching her alternative things to do when she sees stranger dogs. Luckily, she has absolutely loved practising with her favourite human (and tasty treats)! Emotional change takes longer than just pure training, but her family and her are well on their way to a dog-neutral future 🙌🏻

Dependable Dog is one of my more bespoke in-person programmes. If you are local and would like some help with your dog’s responses to other dogs, just send me a message ✉

Not all meat is equal in ethics or in environmental impact 🌎

Small, less conventional proteins (like rabbit or venison), offal like liver or heart, or meat from culled species (like grey squirrels in red squirrel conservation zones) can be lower-impact alternatives to beef and pork. They’re often more nutrient-dense too, and many dogs absolutely love them.

A good rule of thumb? The smaller and less in-demand the animal, the lower their footprint. If your dog eats a high-meat diet, prioritising variety, off-cuts, and less conventional options can really help balance the impact.
What’s the most unusual protein your dog has tried? 🐇💚

I asked her if she was being cheeky and this was her face.

What do you think? 🤔

(She was being a superstar with her training, but she thought she was getting one over on me - earning liver paste for pretend distractions. Practice is practice where our learning is concerned, so I let her have this win 😂)
