Lumi is our newest member of the Pet Health Club 😍

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our former practice manager, Anne Stewart, on the 18th of September.

Anne joined the practice in May 2016 and was with us for 9 years until ill-health led to her retirement in May of 2025. Anne was a wonderful colleague- hard working, considerate and supportive, intelligent, caring and thoughtful. She was respected by us all and is greatly missed.

At a sad time for the Robson & Prescott team, Anne’s death came within 9 days of the passing of our wonderful Viv Skinner. Viv was ever-present at our Ashington branch for over 40 years. Ever vivacious and cheerful, Viv was well known and loved by colleagues and clients alike.

Our sympathies and condolences to all their friends and family.

Ever wondered how we gain intravenous access in rabbits for blood samples, fluids or medication administration? Wonder no more! 🔍🐇

If you take a closer look at your rabbit's ear you may notice a big blood vessel running right down the middle of it. This is the central auricular artery, and although may look tempting as an ideal place to draw blood we don't mess with this one - this artery is the main blood supply to the ear and can cause real issues if it becomes damaged or blocked. ❌

Instead, we take the smaller and more difficult route (naturally!) of the marginal ear vein ✅ which runs all the way down the outer edge of the ear. The edge of the ear is shaved and cleaned, often numbing cream/spray applied, and a tiny intravenous catheter then placed by our wonderfully talented nurses and vets for access. This vein is only around 1/3-1/2 a millimetre wide! 😱

It is then secured with tape, padding and protective vet wrap to avoid movement and nibbles. Voila! 🐰

❤️‍🩹 Today, October 10th is World Mental Health Day ❤️‍🩹

Did you know the veterinary profession has a su***de rate 3-4 times higher than the general population?

Vets, vet nurses and every veterinary team member in between faces constant emotional turmoil, mental and physical burnout, long working hours, increasing client demands and expectations, online and media criticism, and so much more.

We're not perfect, but we are human. We feel your highs and your lows with you, we celebrate your pet's recovery after major surgery, and we cry in the car driving home when we lose them.

On the days we struggle, it's our wonderful team spirit that supports each other. We're a true family at R&P, and nobody gets left behind. That's why we love and continue to organise our craft nights, summer parties, weekend hikes, run club, bake sales, staff birthdays and weddings too! We have a dedicated 'Wellbeing Team' and mental health first aider, and a staff shout-out board to thank a colleague when they make us smile.

We're nothing without each other- and that includes our fantastic clients and every single one of our patients ❤️🐈🐕

Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month ( ) back in May seems like a long time ago....so we'll take any excuse to celebrate our outstanding nursing team once again. Happy International Veterinary Nurses Day! 💕🩺👩🏻‍⚕️

The beautiful Simea would like to demonstrate the importance of regular weight checks! Although we highly recommend our feline patients DO NOT use the waiting room dog scales 😅 (can confirm this was at the cat clinic with a locked door and no other patients on site!) 🐈

Keeping your pet's weight up to date on our system ensures we can always:
✅ Prescribe accurate doses of medication including your regular flea and worming treatment
✅ Helps us identify trends of weight gain/weight loss between appointments, which can sometimes be the first sign of an underlying health condition.

All our branches have waiting room floor scales for your dogs that you can use when you arrive for your appointment 🐕 and we can weigh your cat, small mammal or reptile in the consult room. 🐈🐇🦎
