What to Expect at Your Dog’s Appointment!

Our appointments are designed to give a thorough understanding of your dog’s health, lifestyle, and movement so that we can create a treatment plan tailored specifically to their needs.

We will begin by discussing your dog’s medical history, current concerns, daily activities, exercise routine, and any goals you may have for their rehabilitation or performance. This is also an opportunity to discuss how your dog’s environment and routine may be influencing their condition. Advice and education will be provided on practical adaptations you can make at home to improve your dog’s comfort, mobility, and overall wellbeing.

A comprehensive physical assessment will then be carried out. This will include:

• Observation of your dog’s posture and movement patterns
• Gait assessment
• Range of motion assessment of relevant joints
• Palpation of muscles, tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissues
• Any appropriate orthopaedic or neurological special tests

Following the assessment, treatment will be tailored to your dog’s individual needs and may include:

• Low Level Laser Therapy (Class 3B laser)
• Joint mobilisation techniques
• Soft tissue therapy
• Myofascial release
• Other physiotherapy techniques as clinically appropriate

At the end of the session, a personalised home exercise programme will be created to support your dog’s progress between appointments. Exercises will be demonstrated, practised together, and adapted to suit both you and your dog to ensure they are achievable and easy to incorporate into your daily routine.

The aim of appointments is to reduce pain and discomfort, improve mobility and function, and provide you with the knowledge and tools needed to help your dog achieve the best possible outcome and update those practices each session on a tailored program based off your individual dogs recovery rather than “broad expectations” sheets or advice.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

A big question we get asked is:

“what will that first Hydrotherapy session look like?”

Well … Lyla (who is 17 years young!!!) says:

All of our clients will begin with an initial assessment appointment.

This is so that we can take time to get to know you and your pet before any treatment commences. Them being relaxed with us is absolutely key!

The initial assessment will be 50 minutes long which allows us to move at a speed that provides most reassurance for your best friend.

In this time we will do a gait analysis for your pet, as well as make observations about their posture and build, and we will also measure key areas of their structure to note the natural differences in their limbs.

These points will be reassessed regularly to document improvements.

We will also weigh your pet and provide a 6 point health check which will include:

Eyes,
Ears,
Mouth and gums,
Coat and skin condition,
Check for lumps, cuts or abrasions,
Proprioception and palpation of any areas of concern

We will then commence the first session within the Underwater Treadmill.
