ROBYN’S FOOD PREP! 😍

I loved seeing Eager Beever Dog Training post about how she uses food for enrichment, so it inspired me to get some further prep done for Robyn!

Robyn is fed a mix of raw and kibble, and I use both in different ways to meet her needs.

🥩 Raw breakfast pots
Chicken, mango, blueberries and some veg, topped with chicken broth and popped in the freezer. 🫐🍗 ( she sometimes gets a little treat on top 😂)

🧩 Kibble with a purpose
Her kibble is used throughout the day for training and enrichment, whether that’s a snuffle mat, puzzle games or other activities that get her brain working.

Food doesn't just have to go in a bowl! It can be used to encourage natural behaviours, provide mental stimulation and make everyday life more enriching. 🐶💛

A little prep can go a long way!

Thanks to Eager Beaver for the inspiration! ❤️

🐾 DISTRACTION WORK: MARK & TREAT!

Spot a distraction? Mark it! Reward it! 🎯

1️⃣ Distraction – Your dog notices something.
2️⃣ Mark – Say your marker word.
3️⃣ Treat – Reward your dog.

💡 Top tip: If you already use “YES!” as a marker in other training, choose a different word like “Nice!” or “Good!” for this exercise. Consistency helps your dog understand what you mean.

🐶 A simple practice example:

You’re out on a walk and your dog spots another dog in the distance. The moment they notice the dog, say “Nice!” and give them a treat.

Repeat whenever they spot the other dog, while they’re still calm and able to take food.

Over time, you’re building a positive association with seeing other dogs and helping your dog practise disengaging rather than reacting. ❤️

Start somewhere quiet with easy distractions, then gradually build up. Keep enough distance that your dog feels comfortable.

Simple, but such a useful skill to practise! 🐾

💛 LUNA 💛

You might recognise this gorgeous girl in yellow! 🐾

This morning’s wins for our reactive Luna:

🐱 Saw a cat — a little stare and whimper, but no barking or lunging!
🐕 Saw two dogs — looked and walked on. No staring or barking - yay 🥹🫶

These might seem like little things to some, but they’re HUGE wins for me and Luna! 🥹❤️

I needed this little win today too!

And of course, Luna got her favourite treat when she got home. 😂

Reactive dogs melt my heart. Watching their confidence grow, one little step at a time, is everything. 🫶🐾

You’ve got this, Luna! 💛

🎃🐾 HALLOWEEN ISN’T FAR AWAY!

For some dogs, Halloween can be overwhelming, so I’ll be sharing tips to help our pups feel safe and confident in the run-up to the spooky season. 💜

🪣 LET’S TALK STRESS BUCKETS!

Imagine your dog has an invisible bucket that fills up with every stressful, exciting or overwhelming experience throughout the day.

Loud noises, unfamiliar dogs, visitors, changes to routine, lack of sleep and even too much excitement can all add to their bucket.

Your dog might cope with each thing individually, but when several things build up, their bucket can overflow!

🐶 This might look like barking, lunging, hiding, becoming restless or reacting to something they’d usually manage.

Ever wondered why your dog seems absolutely fine one minute but suddenly struggles with something small? Their bucket might already be nearly full!

The same trigger can get a completely different reaction depending on what’s happened earlier that day.

💜 Understanding the stress bucket helps us look beyond the behaviour and ask, “What might my dog be feeling, and what do they need from me?”

Halloween brings costumes, doorbells, unexpected visitors and strange noises — so let’s help our dogs before their buckets overflow!
