REMINDER: EAST WEST RAIL CONSULTATION CLOSES TOMORROW AT 11:59 PM

This is a final reminder that the East West Rail consultation closes tomorrow at 23:59.

If you have not yet submitted your feedback, there is still time to make your views known. Whether you are concerned about the impact on local businesses, equestrian facilities, access routes, traffic, the environment, or the wider community, every response helps demonstrate the strength of local feeling.

For us, key concerns remain:

• The proposed closure of Weasel's Lane and the need to maintain permanent access to the farm.

• The prolonged closure of Route 51 bridleway and the impact on horse riders and horse welfare.

• The use of Weasel's Lane as a construction route despite its unsuitability for heavy construction traffic.

• Concerns regarding sewage disposal, odours and increased lorry movements associated with the proposed depot.

• The wider impact the depot could have on the future of our business and local equestrian facilities.

We also encourage anyone affected by these proposals to contact our local MP, Callum Anderson, at [email protected] and explain how the plans could impact you personally, your family, your business or your ability to access local amenities and countryside routes.

Please take a few minutes to complete the consultation before it closes tomorrow night. If you know others who may be affected, please share this post.

Thank you to everyone who has already taken the time to respond and support local businesses, equestrian facilities and our rural community

This consultation will run for eight weeks from 14 April to 9 June 2026. The purpose of this consultation is to gather feedback on the updated proposals, particularly the elements which are new or have changed significantly since our previous consultation.

As many of you know, the current East West Rail proposals could have a significant impact on our farm, livery yard, horses, riders and the wider local community.

We encourage everyone to take a few minutes to submit their feedback before the consultation closes.

Some of our key concerns include:
• The proposed closure of Weasel's Lane and bridge reconstruction, which could affect essential access to the farm.
• The prolonged closure of Route 51 bridleway, an important exercise route for horses and riders.
• The use of Weasel's Lane as a construction route for depot and bridge works, despite the road being unsuitable for heavy construction traffic.
• Concerns regarding the proposed sewage disposal arrangements, including potential odours and increased lorry movements.
• The overall impact the depot could have on the long-term viability of our business and local equestrian facilities.

There is already a shortage of affordable DIY livery yards with adequate grazing and facilities in the area. Any reduction in these facilities affects not only horse owners but also the many people who benefit from the physical and mental wellbeing that comes from spending time with horses.

Please submit your feedback through the East West Rail consultation (link below) and consider writing to our local MP, Callum Anderson, at [email protected]. Personal emails explaining how these proposals could affect your family, business, riding activities, access, or wellbeing can help ensure local concerns are properly represented.

The train maintenance depot is question 7 on the feedback form.

Every response matters. If you value local equestrian facilities, safe riding routes, rural businesses and community wellbeing, now is the time to make your voice heard.

Thank you for your continued support.
