We all know that horses can be unpredictable. If you need a vet outside of our normal working hours, hereโ€™s what to expect:

You will always see a vet from Buckingham Equine. We have someone on call 24/7, and every member of the team has full access to your horseโ€™s medical records.

When you phone in:
โžก๏ธYouโ€™ll speak directly to an experienced vet who will ask a few questions about your horseโ€™s condition. Please be as detailed as possible so they can best assess the situation.
โžก๏ธThey will then advise you on the most appropriate next steps.
โžก๏ธIf your horse needs to be seen, the on-call vet will then arrange a time to attend. Please ensure you provide the correct yard address so they can get to you as quickly as possible.

Our normal office opening times are; Monday to Friday - 8:45am-5pm. Outside of these hours, you will be seen by our on-call vet.

๐Ÿ“ž Please donโ€™t hesitate to call if youโ€™re worried or feel your horse needs urgent attention. If you call out of hours, press 1 to speak directly to the vet on-call.

Your horseโ€™s safety is always our priority. ๐ŸŽ

At the end of the week, we will sadly be saying goodbye to our beloved Dr Jess Mullard. Jess is moving on following an exciting new opportunity for her family that was simply too good to turn down. While we are very sad to see her go, we are excited for what lies ahead for her and her family.

Over the last 7 years with us, Jess has made such a lasting contribution to the care of so many horses and has been a trusted support to our clients, colleagues, and referring vets. Her knowledge, calm judgment, and unwavering commitment to horse welfare have left a real mark on the practice. We are incredibly grateful for everything she has brought to the team and for the difference she has made to so many people and horses over the years.

Thank you, Jess, for your hard work, kindness, dedication, and friendship over the past 7 years. The practice wonโ€™t be the same without you.
We wish you every success and happiness in your next adventure.

We will miss you so much, Jess! โค๏ธ

The latest update from the Equine Infectious Disease Surveillance (EIDS) has shown that there has been a further rise in confirmed cases of Equine Influenza across the UK, taking the total number of laboratory confirmed outbreaks to 71, with further testing still awaiting confirmation.

Vaccinations remain the best way to help protect your horse. We would like to highlight the importance of keeping vaccinations up to date to help protect both your horse and the wider equine community. We now have just ๐—ข๐—ก๐—˜ ๐—ช๐—˜๐—˜๐—ž ๐—Ÿ๐—˜๐—™๐—ง of our Vaccine Amnesty, making this the perfect opportunity to get your horse protected and back on track with their vaccinations.

It is important to remain vigilant whilst out competing or attending shows and events, and to avoid contact between your horse and others wherever possible. For owners wanting additional protection, a 6-monthly booster may also be worth considering instead of the standard annual booster, particularly for horses that regularly travel, compete, or attend events.

If you are planning to compete or attend events, please check directly with your governing body or event organiser regarding current vaccination requirements and rules, as these may vary and could change during the outbreak.

Equine Influenza is more than just a few days off work โ€” it can have a significant financial and practical impact.

๐Ÿ“ž Please contact the practice to book your vaccination appointment or to discuss your horseโ€™s vaccination status with our team.

We are delighted to welcome Craig Osborne to our vet team as our new Clinical Director. Craig is an EBVS and RCVS Specialist in Large Animal Surgery and brings a huge amount of expertise in equine lameness, surgery and emergency care. Craig has worked at various equine hospitals in the UK including stints in Somerset, Hertfordshire, Kent and Yorkshire. Most recently he has returned from three years as surgeon at Dubai Equine Hospital working with Thoroughbreds and endurance Arabs. Outside of work Craig is a keen golfer and cyclist, though time for these pursuits are limited while he supports his wife Nikki with their beautiful but lively baby daughter.

Please join us in giving him a warm welcome as he settles into his new life at Buckingham Equine Vets. ๐Ÿฆด๐Ÿด

In light of the recent spike in Equine Influenza cases in the UK, for the month of May, we will be holding a vaccine amnesty. This is the perfect opportunity to get your horse, pony or donkeyโ€™s vaccinations back on track at a reduced cost, with eligible horses receiving their second vaccination for free.

Did you realise all horses are at risk of flu, even if they donโ€™t leave the yard as the virus can travel through the air up to 2km*. Plus when competing and hacking, horses could get infected and bring flu back to the yard.

To take part in our amnesty or to find out more information please call 01908 560789

Letโ€™s work together to keep everyone protected ๐Ÿฉต๐Ÿ’‰
