Meet Elsie Skelton, our new sponsored rider! 🦷🐴✨

Elsie has taken a real interest in every aspect of her ponies’ care, and her enthusiasm for learning more about their health and wellbeing is one of the reasons we were so keen to support her journey. We’re excited to follow Elsie and her lovely ponies as they continue to learn, develop and have plenty of fun along the way!

This week, Elsie headed to Beechfield Arena for a lesson with Emma, where she got to enjoy a session with her young pony, Bilbo, who she is producing herself. And of course, there was even the opportunity to fly over TED’s jump…can you spot it?

A fascinating recent case!🦷

This horse presented with a Midline Sagittal Fracture caused by infundibular caries.

The infundibulum is a natural funnel-shaped cavity found within the upper cheek teeth. When the cementum filling this area is incomplete or defective, food and bacteria can become trapped, leading to decay. Over time, this can weaken the tooth and potentially result in infection and fractures.

In this case, the affected tooth had fractured along the midline and was successfully extracted here at our clinic🦷🐴

A great example of how dental disease can progress beneath the surface, and why regular dental examinations are so important for identifying problems early.

Dental surgery doesn’t just mean we extract teeth!!

We can preserve teeth now we have these advanced procedures.

This lovely horse came to us for the first stage of treatment for a second stage dental defect. Last week we performed a root canal procedure, instrumenting the affected pulp canal to approximately 50 mm to thoroughly debride and disinfect the canal before treatment, helping preserve the affected tooth and improve long-term oral health and comfort.

We're looking forward to seeing this patient back for the next stage of treatment and wish them a smooth recovery! 🦷

Now we seem to be nearing the end of this crazy heatwave, and many horses are getting back into work after a quieter spell, it's the perfect time to make sure they're up to date with their routine healthcare.
