It's International Lynx Day!

So let's take a moment to appreciate Neon and Switch, our Northern Lynx boys.

💡 Did you know... Lynx are versatile hunters and eat a variety of animals. They have keen senses, and can move silently helping them take down prey much larger than themselves.

This week we're celebrating two very special monkey birthdays! 🎉

Gavin is celebrating her 13th birthday, and her daughter, Sprog, is turning 4!

💡 Did you know... Emperor Tamarins live in small family groups, which consist of mum, dad and their offspring. These monkeys usually give birth to twins - Sprog was an exception to this and is now living the life of a spoilt single child

Sometimes you need to take a moment to relax and have a cuddle - just like Mango and Makira

💡Did you know... fossa are cathemeral - that means they can be active at any time, day or night. They have large eyes that allow more light in, enhancing their night vision when hunting in trees.

Our Tawny Frogmouths are back, just in a different part of the zoo!

💡 Did you know... whilst they may look somewhat like owls, tawny frogmouths are actually more closely related to nightjars.

Experts in camouflage and hiding, have you spotted Fraggle or Gonzo yet?

🐠🪸 It's Reef Awareness Day! 🪸🪼

Coral reefs are not just beautiful things to see, they're also super important!
🪸 Despite covering less than 1% of the world's ocean, they're home to over 25% of all marine life!
🪸 Reels shelter coastlines from wave erosion, and provide food and livelihoods for millions of people across the world
🪸 Compounds discovered in corals are considered key to finding new medicines; as possible cures to infections, arthritis and cancer
🪸 The algae that grows in reef settings is really important for co2 capture and oxygen production
🪸 It has been proven that watching fish, even those in captivity, can improve your mood and anxiety by lowering your heart rate

How have coral reefs impacted you?

🌺 Keeper Photos of the Month - May 🌺

We're well on the way towards summer! Moulting away winter coats, bright sunny days, butterflies are back and the trees are all fully in leaf 🍃

Last month we asked if there were any animals you wanted to see featured more, and you said rodents! So our keepers made sure to snap a few extra rodent photos this month. Are there any animals you'd love to see in June?

Did you know our café is dog friendly? And now even serves dog ice-cream? 🐶🍦

Whilst dogs aren't allowed in the zoo, they are welcome within our café areas (indoor seating and the picnic area next to our monkey enclosure).

So you can sit and enjoy some food, cake and ice cream whilst watching the monkeys with your furry friend! 🐒🐶
