Today I have woken to the headline”lost generation” referring to the number of young people who are likely to become (not in employment, training or education)
😢
The statistics refer to the increasing number of young people who will be NEET by 2031…. Predicted to hit 1.25 million.
As a parent, small business owner and also a tax payer these figures deeply concern me. But most of all they make me fearful for the young people we work with every day whose barriers to employment are tougher than many others.
Social deprivation, fewer life chances and often additional SEMH needs all make their progression through education and into employment more tricky than most.
That’s one of the reasons we are introducing City and Guilds L1 Animal Care from September to offer a therapeutic pathway for those who are not ready or able to attend a college but need to start to demonstrate academic and practical skills that make them employable.
This course is in addition to our courses at L1 and L2.
But more than just the academic aspect, we are committed to providing a guided pathway to progression into college or training by working with individual yp and their families. Advocating for them, accompanying them on visits or speaking directly to their next training providers to do absolutely everything to help them take next steps with confidence.
Our max 4:1 ratio and therapeutic approach u deep in this.
We are totally committed to doing everything, even after learners leave us, to make sure they don’t become one of the governments statistics.
