🐾 Why keeping your dog’s nails trimmed matters! 🐾
Regular nail trims are about much more than keeping those paws looking neat! ✂️🐶 Ideally, your dog’s nails should be checked and trimmed every 3–6 weeks, depending on how quickly they grow and how naturally they wear down.
When nails become overgrown, they can alter the way your dog places their paws and distributes their weight. This can put extra pressure on the toes, joints, tendons and bones of the foot and leg and, over time, contribute to changes in the natural structure and posture of the paw.
Long nails can also:
🐾 Make walking uncomfortable or painful
🐾 Cause your dog to change their gait
🐾 Put additional strain on joints and muscles
🐾 Increase the risk of nails splitting, catching or breaking
🐾 Allow the quick to grow longer, making future trims more difficult
Even if your dog’s nails aren’t touching the floor, they’re still worth checking regularly especially the dew claws, which don’t naturally wear down as much.
A little regular maintenance can make a big difference to your dog’s comfort, mobility and long term paw health. ❤️🐾
