A little update on our Thames Valley Police retiree boyo, Pacer 🐾

Retired Thames Valley Police Dog Pacer has had a bit of a rough week with his tummy. Pacer has an ongoing issue with his pancreas, which can occasionally make him feel quite poorly.

Thankfully, today, he was feeling a little brighter and was able to visit his good friend Adam at MSK Vets. These wonderful specialists help keep Pacer’s veteran body moving more comfortably and make sure he continues enjoying the retirement he has earned.

A huge thank you to the team at MSK Vets for always taking such great care of our retired heroes. Your support means the world to dogs like Pacer. 💙

Rest up, big lad. We’re all rooting for you.

Why ‘on and off’ lameness is still lameness

Some of the dogs we see aren’t limping all the time.
They’re stiff after rest.
They slow down on walks.
They have “good days and bad days”.

Intermittent lameness can be one of the earliest signs of:
• Joint disease
• Ligament strain
• Stress fractures
• Spinal discomfort

Because these changes are subtle, they’re easy to miss - or easy to dismiss.

Monitoring movement over time and investigating early can make a big difference to long-term comfort and mobility.

If your dog seems just a little “not quite right”, it’s worth paying attention.

Meet Audi 🐾 - a true hero enjoying his well-earned retirement

Audi is a retired police dog who recently visited us for imaging and treatment of long-standing joint and back pain.

Despite his tough working background, Audi was calm, relaxed and happy in the consult room - a big contrast to how stressful vet visits can be for him elsewhere, when he usually has to be muzzled. With plenty of time, patience and gentle handling, we were able to fully assess him and make a plan to help keep him comfortable.

Imaging showed arthritis in his elbows and changes affecting his lower back.
He’s now had:
✔ Joint injections to help ease elbow pain
✔ A spinal injection to help manage his back discomfort

We’ll be keeping a close eye on how he responds over the coming weeks.

Audi’s story is a lovely reminder that working dogs give so much during their careers - and they deserve just as much care and kindness in retirement.

Cat Fact #2 🐱 Cats are becoming even more popular - and their arthritis care is improving too

There are now over 10.5 million cats in UK homes, and their health needs are getting more attention than ever.

Did you know that arthritis in cats can now be managed in lots of different ways, including:
✔ Weight control
✔ Home changes (ramps, low litter trays, warm bedding)
✔ Pain relief medication
✔ Monthly injections for joint pain
✔ In some cases, treatments delivered directly into sore joints

Cats are very good at hiding pain, so changes like jumping less, sleeping more, or becoming grumpier can be early signs something isn’t right.

If you’re worried your cat may be struggling, speak to your vet, and they can refer you to us if extra investigation or support is needed.

Because cats deserve comfortable, active lives too 💙

Happy Lunar New Year - welcome to the Year of the Horse! 🐎✨

The horse symbolises strength, movement and endurance - values that resonate across all species.

Our sister company Nupsala Veterinary Services helps vets care for horses and companion animals alike, supplying imported and hard-to-find products and supporting clinics with the tools they need to keep pets and horses healthy and active.

At MSK Vets, we bring that same commitment to dogs and cats, using advanced diagnostics and musculoskeletal care to help them stay mobile and comfortable for longer.

From horses to household pets, it’s all about keeping animals moving and living their best lives 💙
