This little reel sums up my Canine Cognition instructor courses that I’ve been running the past few weeks, I wish I’d got more footage across the groups because the discussions, enthusiasm and attitudes of my trainee instructor’s has honestly been inspirational, I’m so happy to have you all growing this fantastic tool and I’m looking forward to our next training to complete your training! I’m so looking forward to attending this conference again in Atlanta!

As instructors, we are regularly putting time into the CPD of others, including other instructors, but it’s important no matter how experienced you are or where you sit in your field, that you continue learning and asking questions.

I have seen a few post recently highlighting either the need for this or the lack of it.
Aside from enjoying the process, I agree it’s incredibly important, especially with how fast our industry is to develop.

I learned loads at this conference the last time I attended, not just from the fantastic presentations, but from the discussions I had with other industry professionals.

It’s also what led me to create SCI SCENT Conference in the UK.

I came back and passed on some of those new ideas to others and this year I’m travelling back with Kathryn at Trailing K9s and Dee at Canine Nose Skills, two more instructors investing in furthering their learning.

Yes it’s a lot of cost and yes it’s a lot of time away from work and family, is it worth it for continued professional development? Absolutely 🙌

Questions answered!

Following last night’s post, a few people have asked if this event is open to sport handlers as well as operational, the answer - of course it is! Just like all my events, everyone is welcome!

I’ve also been asked if, as a handler you need to have a problem or be facing a challenge to book a space, the answer - no, you can have a completely new dog, an experienced dog that you would like to focus on a certain area with that you want to improve, or something that you’ve always wanted to understand better or work on with your dog 🙂

Any questions just ask, I never want people feeling like they shouldn’t be there or questioning that ❤️

A different kind of detection clinic.

Over two days, Cameron Ford and Georgie Jones will explore the thinking behind effective detection training, taking the discussion from theory into practical application.

A limited number of working spots will be taken in advance, with handlers able to share the challenges they’re currently facing with their dog. We’ll then use those real cases throughout the clinic, discussing the problem, looking at the options, explaining our thought process and putting it into practice with the dog.

For everyone attending, this means you’re not just watching exercises being demonstrated. You’ll see how we assess a problem, make training decisions and adapt as the dog gives us information.

Which for the handlers, we will then use to help you get the best from your search, leaving you with a clear plan of action for after the workshop. This will be sent to you following the event so you can continue your development with your dog.

Expect plenty of discussion, practical work and honest problem solving across the two days.

Location is Reading, Berkshire - Close to and the 2 days following SCI SCENT! Priority places will go to SCISCENT ticket holders (there’s still 6 tickets remaining! For the conference!).
