Spring Dangers Series: Ticks🪳

As the weather warms up, ticks become more common and can carry diseases that affect both dogs and humans.

🌳After walks - especially in parks, woodland, or the countryside - be sure to check your dog carefully. Run your hands over their coat and feel for any small lumps, as ticks attach to the skin and grow as they feed. Finding them early is key!

Prevention:
• Check your dog after walks
• Use vet-recommended treatments

Groomers can often spot ticks early during appointments, so regular grooming and checks play an important role in keeping your dog safe 🐶💛

🐣 Spring Dangers Series: Easter Foods

Last week: lungworm
This week: Easter foods

🍞 Hot Cross Buns & Simnel Cake
Contain toxic dried fruits (raisins, sultanas, currants) which can cause serious kidney damage - even in small amounts. Keep well out of reach.

🍫 Chocolate Easter Eggs
Contain theobromine, which affects the heart and nervous system. Dark chocolate is the most dangerous, but all types should be avoided.

🍗 Easter Roast Dinner
Too rich, fatty and salty. Can cause stomach upset or pancreatitis - stick to their normal diet.

If your dog eats something they shouldn’t, call your vet immediately. Don’t wait for symptoms and never try to make them sick.

📋 What to tell your vet
What they ate, how much, when, and any symptoms.

Keep your pets safe this Easter 🐶🌼

Stay tuned for next week’s spring danger!

Spring is here… and we’re continuing our dog safety series.

Last week: Spring plants 🌺
This week: Lungworm 🐌

As the weather gets wetter, slugs and snails become more active - and they can carry lungworm, a serious parasite dogs can pick up from puddles, grass, or even outdoor toys.

Keep an eye out for:

🐾 Coughing
🐾 Breathing problems
🐾 Low energy
🐾 Cuts that take longer to stop bleeding
🐾 Changes in behaviour

If something doesn’t seem right, it’s always best to check with your vet.

Stay tuned for next week’s spring danger!

⚠️ Watch Out for These Spring Plants

Some common spring plants can be toxic to dogs if eaten.

Plants to watch out for:

🌼Daffodils
🌷Tulips
🌺Crocuses
🌸Bluebells
🪻Hydrangeas
💐Wisteria

Dogs love to sniff and explore, so it’s important to keep an eye on them around plants while out walking or in the garden!

If your dog eats something they shouldn’t, contact your vet.
