Stand is the forgotten position.

Unless your showing a dog many people don't bother to teach it at all.

But I think it's a great alternative to sit or down.

⭐️ When you're out on the walk and you want your dog to stop at a curb, they don't need to sit every time a stand is perfectly fine.

⭐️ when it wet and they don't sit down a stand is perfect
⭐️ when it's a slippery floor and sit or down are going to be difficult, stand is perfect.

⭐️ if they have any Arthritis or joint problems, sit can be quite painful stand is a better alternative

⭐️ perfect for grooming

⭐️ great for a vet trip when they want to feel their stomach or take their temperature

Some of the biggest issues I hear raised by new puppy owners are crazy biting, crazy, zoomies and hyperactive behaviours from their puppies. And a lot of lots of these are caused by the puppy being overtired.

Of course, we need to make sure that all their other needs have been met, they're not hungry or thirsty, they've been to the toilet, they're not in any discomfort from their teeth.
But the one need missed is sleep.

Because puppies seemed to have endless energy it feels as though we need to be tiring them out and using up their energy rather than thinking that actually they're overtied, and they need a rest. Especially in a busy household it's very easy to forget that how young the puppy is and therefore how much babies actually need sleep.

Think about a toddler and how badly behaved and grumpy they can be if they've missed their nap, puppies can be the same

A 12 week-old puppy, for example, should be getting 18 to 20 hours good quality sleep or rest a day.
A dog of any age isn't designed to be on the go all day long. All dogs need to sleep puppies, especiallyl

Now as a dog trainer I want dogs to be having fun on their walks.
However, as a cyclist and a runner, I'd like to feel safe passing your dogs.

I always call out in advance whether I'm running or on my bike or canicrossing with my dogs. Because I don't want to startle you or your dog and I want you to have time to move you and your dog out of way, because, let's face it most people walk down a country path in the middle of the path.

I also want to know that I can pass safely. Telling me that your dog will soon move while I'm cycling doesn't fill me with confidence and this particular dog should be very grateful I have good brakes when it jumped out in front of me.

The 4 that were just allowed to stand in the path, well the owner was on the phone and clearly his phone call was more important!

The one that chased me, that really should not be happening. If you can't recall your dog from runners or cyclists don't have them off lead in an area where there are runners or on a cycle track or bridalway.

Dog walkers, please just have some common sense!

The perfect behaviour for my dogs when the door bell goes is to go and lay on their beds.
This keeps them away from the door so the visitor can come in without being mobbed by the dogs.

Start by teaching a send to bed, then add the door bell as the cue to go
