📍Marshwood, DT6 5QG I wanted to create a grooming space where dogs feel comfortable, cared for, & leave looking their very best. I'm a fully qualified & Insured, First Aid Trained

, DBS Checked, knowledgeable on all breeds & passionate dog groomer with a genuine love for dogs. With a real passion for animals and professional grooming skills. From playful pups to senior sweethearts, I make sure every dog is treated with patience, kindness, and plenty of cuddles. As part of my journey into dog grooming, I studied Animal Care and Science at Kingston Maurward College. A fantastic experience that gave me a solid foundation in animal health, behaviour, and welfare. During my time there, I gained hands-on experience working with a wide variety of animals, learning how to handle them safely and with confidence. The course deepened my understanding of animal anatomy, nutrition, and behaviour—all of which are incredibly important when it comes to grooming dogs gently and effectively. It also taught me how to spot signs of stress or discomfort, so I can always put your dog’s wellbeing first. My time at Kingston Maurward really confirmed my passion for working with animals and helped shape the calm, kind, and professional approach I bring to every grooming session today. Since I was young I’ve loved animals — both learning about and taking care of them. I began working as a self- employed, fully qualified full-time Dog Groomer in August 2025 and now have the opportunity to share my love of animals with my clients and pet owners all over the Dorset, Devon and Somerset area. Alongside my qualifications to be a dog groomer. At Milo’s Dog Grooming Parlour, your pooches comfort and wellbeing are my top priorities. I take the time to get to know each dog individually, working with their personality and needs to make grooming a positive experience. Whether it’s a simple bath and tidy or a full groom, I use gentle handling techniques and high-quality products to keep your dog looking and feeling their best. I pride myself on the high-standard of care and services that I offer for meeting your dogs needs. I look forward to welcoming you and your furry friend soon!

Why I Don’t Shave Healthy Double-Coated Dogs Just Because It’s Hot ☀️

I completely understand why owners sometimes ask for their double-coated dog to be shaved in summer. It seems logical — less fur must mean less heat, right? 🤔

Actually, that isn't quite how a healthy double coat works ✨

A double coat is designed to insulate the dog and help regulate their temperature. The dense undercoat traps air and acts as insulation, while the outer coat helps protect the skin from direct sunlight and environmental heat 🌡️

Dogs also don't cool themselves in the same way humans do. They rely heavily on panting and evaporation through the respiratory system, rather than sweating through their skin. So removing the coat doesn't suddenly give them a more effective cooling system 🐕

Think of the coat as a natural protective barrier. In hot weather, it can help slow the transfer of heat from the environment towards the skin, while also providing protection from UV rays ☀️

That doesn't mean a double-coated dog can't overheat — they absolutely can. Keeping them cool still means providing plenty of fresh water 💧, shade 🌳, good ventilation and avoiding strenuous exercise during the hottest parts of the day 🐾

What does make a huge difference is keeping the coat well maintained. Regular brushing removes dead, loose undercoat and prevents matting, which allows the coat to function as it should ✨

And there's an important distinction:

Removing severely matted ✂️, compacted or unhealthy coat when necessary is completely different from shaving a healthy double coat purely to make a dog “cooler”

Once a double coat is shaved, the regrowth can also be unpredictable in some dogs, and the skin is left with much less protection from the sun 🌞

So when I recommend not shaving a healthy double-coated dog. I'm not trying to make grooming more difficult or refusing a client's wishes. I'm putting the dog's coat, skin and welfare first ❤️

“Less fur doesn't automatically mean a cooler dog. Sometimes the best thing we can do is help their natural coat do the job it was designed to do” 💫

🐾What to Expect at Your Dog’s First Groom🐾

For some dogs, their first groom can be a big experience! New smells, sounds, equipment and someone they’ve never met before can all feel a little overwhelming 💕

That’s why I always focus on making their first visit as positive and stress-free as possible. We take things at their pace, giving them time to settle, explore and get comfortable

✨ Some dogs need more than one session ✨
Not every dog will be ready for a full groom straight away — and that’s absolutely okay! Sometimes, a few shorter sessions are needed to build confidence and trust. I would much rather take the time to help your dog feel safe than rush them through a groom and create a negative experience

🌿 Desensitisation is so important 🌿
Small and positive experiences can make a huge difference. Getting your dog used to the sound of clippers, the feel of brushing, having their feet handled and being around grooming equipment can all help them become more confident over time

🧴Why I choose the products I use 🧴
Your dog’s skin & coat deserve the very best care. I use gentle, dog-safe shampoos and products chosen specifically with different coat types and individual needs in mind. Every dog is different, so I tailor their grooming experience accordingly

Most importantly, grooming should be about more than just making your dog look beautiful — it’s about helping them feel comfortable, confident and cared for 💗

If your dog is nervous about grooming, please don’t worry. We can work together to build their confidence, one positive experience at a time 🌸
