💘🐶 AAAAAAAAND THEY CALL IT…PUUUUUPPY LOOOOOOVE! 🐶💘
As we all know, our fantastic Student Veterinary Nurse Izzy is VERY partial to a Staffy…but Staffy PUPPIES?! Well, she never stood a chance. 😂😭❤️

So imagine Izzy’s delight when not one, not two…but a whole litter of SIX of these little cuties came through our doors for their first vaccinations! 💉🐾
Six tiny Staffies.
Six squishy little faces.
Six lots of puppy cuddles.
Basically…Izzy’s idea of heaven. 😂☁️🐶

These gorgeous little ones are getting ready to head off to their fur-ever homes, where a whole new world of adventures, mischief and LOTS of love awaits them! 🏡💕🐾

We’re not entirely sure who enjoyed this appointment more — the puppies getting all the attention… or Izzy getting to cuddle SIX Staffy babies at once! 🥹😂

Good luck in your new homes, little ones! Go and cause exactly the right amount of Staffy mischief! 🐶💘🐾✨

🎃🐾 Let’s talk fancy dress… and pet safety! 🐾🎃

With spooky season creeping closer, we know there are going to be plenty of adorable pumpkins, witches, ghosts and little monsters appearing on our feeds! 👻🐶🐱

Fancy dress can make for a VERY cute photo, but remember — our pets don’t understand Halloween quite like we do! 🧡

If you’re dressing your pet up:
🎃 Comfort comes first – if they seem worried, freeze, try to escape or simply aren't enjoying it, take the costume off. No photo is worth making them uncomfortable. ❤️
👻 Check the fit – costumes shouldn't restrict breathing, movement, hearing, vision or their ability to toilet normally.
🕷️ Watch the little bits – buttons, bells, elastic, ribbons and decorations can quickly become choking or swallowing hazards.
🧙‍♀️ Keep it cool – thick costumes can cause pets to become too warm, especially indoors.
📸 Keep it short & sweet – sometimes a quick photo and plenty of praise is more than enough!

🍫 And while we're talking Halloween… keep that trick-or-treat stash safely out of reach! Chocolate and sweets containing ingredients such as xylitol can be dangerous for our pets. 🚫🍬

Some pets will happily strut around like they've been waiting all year for their modelling career… 💅😂 Others would much rather experience Halloween completely naked, and that's absolutely fine too!

💕👋 WAIT…THERE'S ANOTHER JORDAN?! 👋💕
Now, we know this might get a little confusing… but we'd like to introduce you to our OTHER Receptionist Jordan! 😂❤️

Yes, you read that correctly. We now have TWO Jordans, they're BOTH ladies, they're BOTH receptionists and even they couldn't believe the coincidence! 🤣

You might occasionally spot our newest Jordan covering the reception desk at Shirebrook Vets, but you'll mainly find her over at our Ravensdale and Staveley branches! 🐾💕

So, if you hear someone shouting "JORDAN!" across the practice and two receptionists turn around…now you know why! 😂

We're so pleased to have another lovely face on our reception team, and we hope you'll all give her a warm welcome! 🥰❤️

This week, we’re introducing our lovely receptionist, Jordan! You may recognise her from previous posts as the one getting all the cuddles 💙🐾

Jordan loves meeting all the amazing pets that come through the door at Ravensdale Vets, and especially enjoys it when a unique visitor pops in… like a chicken! 🐔😍 You never know who might come through our doors!

When Jordan isn’t busy welcoming pets and their owners, she’s kept on her toes at home by her very own gang of five furry friends: Nelson the Labrador and four dachshunds, Lola, Winnie, Sushi and Bueno! 🐶🐾💕

Here are a few more things you might not know about Jordan…

🍕 Favourite food: Pizza, pasta, burgers and Haribos (the perfect combo! 😋🍬)
🌍 Dream destination: Scotland! Jordan is planning a road trip to Lands End and the Isle of Skye next year, and the Isle of Skye is top of her list! 🚗🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
🩺 Work ambition: To become a Registered Veterinary Nurse! 💙

🦎💚 HAPPY NATIONAL REPTILE DAY! 💚🦎
As you all know, we're predominantly a small furry animal practice — cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters…you get the idea! 🐶🐱🐰

BUT…did you know we also have a few scaly patients on our books?! 👀🐍

Although we love these fascinating creatures, reptiles require specialist equipment and care, so we always recommend registering them with an exotic veterinary practice, particularly for emergencies or more complex health concerns. 🩺💚

However, we do have a few vets who are happy to offer basic reptile appointments, including:
🐢 Beak and claw trims
⚖️ Weight checks
🩺 Basic health and pre-hibernation checks

🦎 NOW…MEET CUBONE! 🦎
Our very own receptionist Jordan is the proud Mummy of this handsome Bearded Dragon, so we thought we'd dedicate today's post to one of our own! 🥹💚 He might not be fluffy, but he's certainly just as adorable and ready for Halloween! 😂❤️

🦷🐶 Tiny dog, BIG smile! 🐶🦷
This handsome little chap is Charlie the Chihuahua, who recently spent the day with us for a dental procedure with Vet Reegan! 🩺✨

Dental health is so important for our pets, and our smaller breeds can be particularly prone to dental problems due to having a lot of teeth packed into those teeny-tiny mouths! 🦷🐾

Some signs your pet may need a dental check include:
🪥 Bad breath
🦷 Visible plaque or tartar
🔴 Red or sore gums
🍽️ Difficulty eating or favouring one side
🤤 Excessive drooling
🐾 Pawing or rubbing at the mouth

And remember — pets can be very good at hiding dental discomfort, so regular checks can help us spot problems that aren't immediately obvious at home. ❤️

Charlie was an absolute little superstar for his day with us, and we hope he's feeling fabulous with his freshly attended-to smile! 🥹✨

🥹🐱 Have you ever seen anything as sweet as this little guy?! 🐱🥹
Everyone say hello to Pijus, a gorgeous almost 10-year-old Sphynx who has certainly collected a few stories over the years — including the fact that this handsome gentleman has just one eye! 💙

Pijus recently came in to see Vet Reegan for some investigations into a few recent health concerns, but his visit got us thinking about something we’re often asked…

👁️ How well can cats cope with only one eye?

The answer is — usually incredibly well! 🥰 Cats are wonderfully adaptable, and once they've adjusted, many one-eyed cats can continue to enjoy a fantastic quality of life.

Initially, they may need a little time to adapt to changes in depth perception and their field of vision, so you might notice them being slightly more cautious when jumping or approaching something on their blind side. 🐾

At home, you can help by:

🏡 Keeping their environment relatively consistent
👋 Approaching from their sighted side or gently letting them know you're there
🪜 Giving them a little extra consideration around heights and jumps
🌳 Taking additional care outdoors, where reduced vision can make hazards harder to spot

But don't underestimate them! Once they've adapted, you'll often find these clever little creatures running, playing, climbing and causing just as much mischief as their two-eyed friends. 😂❤️

And Pijus is a wonderful reminder that being a little different certainly doesn't make you any less handsome, capable or completely adorable! 🥹🐱

We hope you're feeling better soon, sweet boy. You've certainly stolen our hearts! 💙🐾

💙🐾 National Boss Day🐾💙
Now, there are three people who don't actually get much of the spotlight on our social media pages… mainly because they're usually far too busy keeping everything running behind the scenes! 😂

James and Sean work across all three of our practices, juggling consultations alongside everything else that comes with running Vet Well Soon — including plenty of things our clients probably never get to see! 🩺💻🐾

Then there's our wonderful Practice Manager Jules, also working across all three sites and usually tucked away in an office somewhere — not always by choice 😂 — dealing with approximately 847 different things at once and somehow keeping us all heading in the right direction! 💻☎️📝

And if we're being truthful, we probably don't tell any of them how we really feel often enough… mainly because when we go looking for them, it's usually because we need something, something has gone wrong, or we're about to make something their problem. 👀😂

So, on National Boss Day, we're putting the requests, questions and “have you got two minutes?” conversations aside for just a moment to simply say thank you. ❤️

Thank you for supporting us, putting up with us, believing in the team and working incredibly hard behind the scenes to keep our three practices doing what they do every day. Thank you for being your strange, wonderful, silly, supportive and fantastic selves. 🥹💙

We might drive you slightly bonkers from time to time… but we wouldn't have you any other way. Happy National Boss Day, James, Sean & Jules! We appreciate you three more than we probably remember to tell you. ❤️🐾

🏡 FRIDAY — Learning that alone is okay

🐶💕 Puppy Socialisation Week: Final Day! 💕🐶

We've talked about meeting people, exploring new things, handling and experiencing the big wide world… but there's another really important skill puppies need to learn:

🏡 How to be comfortable on their own.

It can be tempting to spend every waking second cuddling your new arrival — we get it! LOOK AT THEM! 😭😂 — but gradually introducing short periods alone can help them learn that being separated from you isn't something to fear.

Start with very short, manageable periods and build up gradually, making alone time calm and normal rather than suddenly leaving them for hours. 🐾❤️

And perhaps the biggest message from this entire week is…

🌟 Socialisation isn't about cramming as many experiences as possible into your puppy's life.

It's about providing a variety of safe, positive experiences without overwhelming them, allowing them to explore at their own pace and helping them build confidence in the world around them. 🥹🐶💚

Small experiences now can help shape a happier, more confident adult dog later. 🐾❤️

🌎 THURSDAY — The floor is… suspicious?!

🐶🐾 Puppy Socialisation Week: Day 4!

Grass might seem completely ordinary to us, but to a puppy experiencing the world for the first time, different surfaces can feel VERY strange! 😂

Where safe and appropriate, gradually introducing different surfaces and environments can help build confidence:

🌱 Grass
🧸 Carpet
🪨 Gravel & pebbles
🪵 Different indoor flooring
🪜 Steps and stairs
🚗 Car journeys
🌳 Parks & countryside
🏙️ Towns and busier environments
🚦 Watching traffic from a safe distance

Remember to consider your puppy’s vaccination status when deciding where they can safely explore — your veterinary team can advise you if you're unsure. 💉🐾

And don't forget: watching counts too! Your puppy doesn't need to interact with everything they see.

Tomorrow, we’re finishing with something that can be surprisingly difficult… learning how to be alone. ❤️

🩺 WEDNESDAY — Touch the toes!

🐾🩺 Puppy Socialisation Week: Day 3!

Here’s one that your future vet, veterinary nurse AND groomer will thank you for! 😂👏

Getting puppies comfortable with gentle handling from an early age can make routine care much less daunting later in life.

Practise gently touching and examining their:

🐾 Paws & legs
👂 Ears
🦷 Mouth & teeth
💕 Tummy and chest
🐕 Tail
🤗 Head & neck

You can also gradually introduce things such as gentle brushing, wearing a collar and lead, being restrained briefly and standing on a table.

Keep sessions short, gentle and positive, and stop if your puppy becomes uncomfortable. ❤️

A 30-second paw-touching session now could make those future claw clips MUCH less dramatic! 😂💅🐶

Tomorrow we're heading outside and exploring what’s under those little paws! 🌎🐾
