🐰🌿 Happy International Rabbit Day! 🌿🐰
Today we're giving some love to our wonderful bunny friends! Whether they're tiny bundles of mischief or fully grown professional hay-munchers, rabbits make wonderful companions with BIG personalities. πŸ’•πŸ‡

Being a rabbit owner comes with some very important responsibilities, and understanding their natural needs is key to keeping them happy and healthy.

🌾 Hay, hay and more hay! Good-quality feeding hay or grass should make up the majority of a rabbit's diet. It's vital for their digestive system and helps naturally wear down their continuously growing teeth.
🐰 Bunnies need buddies! Rabbits are highly social animals and generally thrive with a compatible rabbit companion. Human cuddles are lovely, but we can't quite replace another bunny!
🏑 Give them room to zoom! Rabbits need much more than a small hutch. They should have plenty of secure space to run, stretch, explore, forage, hide and perform those all-important binkies! πŸ’¨
🦷 Keep an eye on those teeth! Rabbit teeth grow continuously, so dental problems can become serious. Reduced appetite, drooling, difficulty eating or changes in behaviour should never be ignored.
πŸ’‰ Don't forget vaccinations! Pet rabbits should be protected against serious diseases including myxomatosis and rabbit haemorrhagic disease (RHD). Speak to your veterinary team about the appropriate vaccination schedule for your bunny.

And one very important rabbit rule: if your bunny suddenly stops eating or pooing, contact a vet promptly. Rabbits can become seriously unwell very quickly. 🚨🐰

To celebrate, we'd LOVE to see your bunnies! πŸ“ΈπŸ’• Pop a picture in the comments and tell us their nameβ€”and maybe their favourite snack too! πŸ₯¬πŸ₯•πŸΎ

πŸ¦”πŸ¦ŠπŸŒΏ Happy National Wildlife Day! πŸŒΏπŸ¦‰πŸ¦‡
Today, 4th September, we're celebrating the incredible wildlife we share our countryside, towns and even our gardens with. πŸ’š

From hedgehogs pottering through our gardens and bats flying overhead at dusk, to foxes, badgers, owls, garden birds, frogs, newts and squirrelsβ€”we're incredibly lucky to have such a variety of wildlife right on our doorstep. πŸ¦”πŸ¦‡πŸΈ

Sadly, some of Britain's native wildlife is under real pressure. In England, species such as the red squirrel and water vole are classed as endangered, and many of our native animalsβ€”including bats, red squirrels, water voles, great crested newts and dormiceβ€”have legal protections. Some species' homes are protected too; for example, damaging or destroying a bat roost can be an offence.

The good news is that even small changes at home can give wildlife a helping hand! 🏑🌱

🌸 Grow a variety of wildlife-friendly flowers for bees, butterflies and other pollinators.
πŸ¦” Leave small gaps beneath fences so hedgehogs can travel safely between gardens.
πŸ’§ Add a shallow water source or wildlife pondβ€”just make sure there's an easy escape route.
🌿 Allow a little corner of the garden to grow wild, providing food and shelter.
🐦 Put out suitable bird food and keep feeders and water stations clean.
πŸ‚ Leave some logs, leaves and natural areas where insects and other wildlife can shelter.
🐱 Consider keeping cats indoors around dawn and dusk when wildlife can be particularly active.

And remember, wild doesn't always mean homeless! ❀️ If you find a wild animal, particularly a youngster, it may not necessarily need rescuing. Observe from a safe distance where possible and seek advice from a wildlife rescue or veterinary professional before intervening.

Protected wildlife should never be deliberately captured, handled or disturbed without appropriate justification or, where required, a licence.

Today is a lovely reminder that our pets aren't the only animals who need us looking out for them. 🌎🐾

πŸ°πŸ–€πŸ€ Say hello to the very handsome Oreo! πŸ€πŸ–€πŸ°
This beautiful bunny boy recently spent the day with us for his castration with Vet Sophia! 🩺✨

Now, Oreo isn't exactly what you'd call a cuddly bunny, and being picked up definitely isn't high on his list of favourite activities! πŸ˜‚ However, he was more than happy to accept some gentle head strokes and ear rubs from the team. πŸ₯ΉπŸΎ

But did you know this is actually completely normal for rabbits? πŸ°πŸ’‘

Rabbits are prey animals, so being lifted off the ground can instinctively make them feel vulnerable or frightened. In the wild, being picked up would usually only happen if they'd been caught by a predator, so even our much-loved domestic bunnies can retain that natural instinct.

Many rabbits prefer affection with all four paws safely on the ground. πŸ’• Sitting quietly at their level and allowing them to approach you for gentle forehead, cheek or ear strokes can be much more enjoyable for them than being picked up and cuddled.

Of course, every bunny has their own personalityβ€”some tolerate handling better than others! πŸ‡βœ¨ The important thing is learning what makes your rabbit feel safe and comfortable and interacting with them on their terms.

Oreo certainly made his preferences very clear: less picking up, more head scratches please! πŸ˜‚πŸ–€πŸ€

We hope you're recovering well, handsome boy! πŸ°πŸ’•

πŸ‚πŸΎ We're back and open as usual! πŸΎπŸ‚
We hope you all had a lovely long Bank Holiday weekend, spending plenty of time with your loved ones! πŸ’™

And just like that, the final summer Bank Holiday is behind us and we're heading towards the 'BER' months! 🍁🧣 We're talking crunchy orange leaves, snuggly blankets, darker evenings and all the exciting festivities that come with this time of year. πŸŽƒπŸ”₯πŸŽ„ Cosiness is officially incoming!

As the seasons change, we'll be sharing plenty of advice to help keep your pets happy and safe throughout autumn and winter. But for now, there's one important reminder...

πŸͺ±πŸͺ³ Parasite protection is important ALL YEAR ROUND!
It's a common myth that fleas, ticks and worms are only a problem during the warmer summer months. While some parasites may be more active at certain times of year, they don't simply disappear when the temperature drops. Fleas in particular can thrive inside our warm, centrally heated homes throughout autumn and winter. 🏑πŸ”₯

Keeping up with your pet's recommended parasite treatment throughout the year helps ensure there are no gaps in their protection. 🐢🐱

So bring on the blankets, autumn walks and cosy evenings... just don't let the parasites get cosy too! πŸ˜‚πŸ‚πŸΎ

πŸŒžπŸ–οΈ Happy August Bank Holiday! πŸ–οΈπŸŒž
Just a reminder that our practices are closed today as we enjoy the last Bank Holiday before Christmas...yes, it's come around far too quickly! πŸ˜…πŸŽ„

πŸ’™ If your pet needs urgent veterinary attention today, please don't worry. Our dedicated 24/7 on-call team is still here and ready to help with any emergencies, just as they are every day of the year. 🐾

If your pet's condition can safely wait until tomorrow, we'll be back open as normal on Tuesday, ready to welcome you back through our doors.

We hope you're all enjoying the extra day, whether you're out exploring, having a family BBQ, or simply relaxing at home with your four-legged best friends. β˜€οΈπŸΆπŸ±

However you're spending the day, have a wonderful Bank Holiday, stay safe, and give your pets an extra cuddle from all of us! πŸ’™πŸΎ

🌈🐾 Rainbow Bridge Memorial Day 🐾🌈
Today, we pause to remember the much-loved companions who are no longer by our side, but who will forever remain in our hearts. πŸ’™

Firstly, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who shared photos of their beloved pets with us in memory of those who have passed. We were honoured to receive them and to be trusted with helping to celebrate and remember their lives. πŸ₯Ήβ€οΈ

We've done our very best to include every precious pet that was sent to us in this special collage. Each face represents a life that was deeply cherished, each paw print a journey that meant the world to a family, and each one a much-missed companion who will never be forgotten. 🌈🐾

As veterinary professionals, we are privileged to walk alongside you through every stage of your pets’ livesβ€”from those first puppy and kitten visits, through years of care and companionship, and finally, to the moment we must say goodbye. These bonds stay with us always, and we remember every single one. ❀️

We hope this tribute offers a moment of reflection and remembrance, and serves as a gentle reminder that the love shared with our pets does not end when they pass. It continues to live on in the memories we hold so dearly. 🌈✨

To every pet featured here, and to those we were unable to include, thank you for the lives you shared, the memories you created, and the lasting place you hold in your families’ heartsβ€”and in ours.

Run free over Rainbow Bridge, beautiful souls. You are missed every day. πŸŒˆπŸΎπŸ’™

πŸ¦Έβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’™ A HUMUNGOUS SHOUT OUT! πŸ’™πŸ¦Έβ€β™‚οΈ
We have to give the biggest THANK YOU to Bella & Daisy's Dad, who came to our rescue following today's downpour with some much-needed sandbags! πŸŒ§οΈπŸ’¦

After our earlier battle involving buckets, brushes and a LOT of sweeping πŸ§ΉπŸ˜‚, these should hopefully keep that pesky water firmly where it belongs...OUTSIDE! πŸš«πŸ’§

It's incredibly kind gestures like this that remind us just how wonderful our little community is. πŸ₯ΉπŸ’™ You saw we were struggling and came straight to helpβ€”and we honestly can't thank you enough!

Bella & Daisy, please inform Dad that he's officially earned himself some serious brownie points at his next visit!...he can have a scooby snack with you! πŸ˜‚πŸΎβ€οΈ
