Back in 2014 when I moved to a bigger premises, I invited Leigh cats and dogs home to bring some rescue dogs for grooms, it was a brilliant day and it even made the papers!
Now we’ve moved again to an even bigger place to open the academy, I want to do the same again! 🐾
So, tag away and share to a rescue centre that would be available to bring some dogs in next Sunday for a well deserved full on pamper! 🛁
They will all get to be the first to try all our new products and sample our delicious treats that will be on sale!

The new academy is coming on well! I’ve been out competing this weekend in Cambridge and got lots of goodies for the new place!

🐾 WE’RE MOVING… JUST 4 DOORS DOWN! 🐾

Doggie styles dog and cat grooming academy

Our new academy has been designed with one big idea in mind: groomers never stop learning. 💕 Whether you’re just starting your grooming journey, building your confidence, looking to perfect your skills, or you’re an experienced groomer wanting to learn something new, we want our academy to become a place where groomers from all levels and all over the country can come together, learn, share knowledge and grow.

✨ So, what will our new space have?

🐩 A large, spacious grooming floor with room for 4 grooming tables
🛎️ A welcoming reception area with retail
🛁 A dedicated bathing & drying room
📚 A theory room for students to learn and develop their knowledge
☕ A kitchen space for those all-important cups of tea & coffee and a chance to have a chat
🐈 A dedicated quiet room for grooming cats, giving our feline clients a calm and peaceful environment
🎓 Space for seminars for up to 30 people
✂️ Dedicated space for hands-on workshops for up to 10 people
🐾 1-2-1 days also available

But more than just a new salon, we want this to become a learning hub for the grooming industry.

A place where groomers can come together, meet other groomers, learn from experienced professionals, attend seminars, take part in practical workshops, refresh their knowledge and discover new techniques.

Because in this industry, you never stop learning. There’s always another breed to understand, another technique to master, another skill to develop and something new to discover. 🐾

We want our academy to be a space where knowledge is shared, questions are welcomed and groomers at every stage of their career feel comfortable learning and developing.

And the best part? We’re only moving 4 doors down! So not far for our customers to travel!

Same familiar faces, same passion for grooming, but a whole new space and an even bigger vision.

We cannot wait to open the doors and welcome you all into our new salon ❤️ opening 12th of October 🍂

We have workmen in today sorting out the new floors and plumbing for the bathing area, electrician is doing some jobs and new signs are going up soon!

We are incredibly lucky to have this amazing opportunity and are excited for the future!

🐾 Grooming our golden oldies 🐾

As our dogs get older, their grooming needs change — and sometimes we need to change with them. ❤️

Our senior dogs- like Mable here, may not be able to stand for as long as they once could, and arthritis, stiff joints and reduced mobility can make certain positions uncomfortable or even painful. This means they often need a gentler approach, extra support, more breaks and a little more time.

Their haircut may need to change too. Keeping the coat shorter and easier to manage can make life much more comfortable for an older dog. It can reduce brushing, prevent painful matting and make it easier for them to move around without a heavy or difficult-to-maintain coat.

Some older dogs also experience changes in their cognitive function — sometimes referred to as doggy dementia. They can become more confused, anxious or unsettled, especially in a busy salon environment.

That’s why small changes can make such a big difference. 🥰

A quieter space, fewer distractions, gentle handling, familiar routines and a slower pace can help an older dog feel safe and comfortable during their groom.

And sometimes, the groom itself needs to be different. We may take more breaks, work a little slower or adapt what we’re doing depending on how the dog is feeling that day.

Senior grooming isn’t about making an older dog look perfect — it’s about keeping them comfortable, clean and happy. ❤️

Mable now comes in early morning when it’s just myself and Mable, she doesn’t get stressed and we take our time, photo of Mable in her youth and today 🫶🏼
