Choosing an orthopaedic dog bed is about support, not simply softness.

The Ultimate Orthopaedic Dog Bed by Baker & Bray in Sage Green combines premium-grade repurposed memory foam with raised bolsters and a lower front entry to create a more stable, supportive place for your dog to rest.

It’s a strong option for older dogs, larger breeds, dogs that show stiffness after activity, or dogs that struggle to settle properly on softer, less structured beds.

For everyday practicality, the covers are fully removable and machine washable, the base is waterproof and non-slip, and replacement covers are available separately.

It was also named Best Overall Dog Bed by The Telegraph in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

The Sage Green finish works especially well in neutral interiors, with cream, stone, wood and muted green tones.

Save this if you’re comparing orthopaedic dog beds.

Every dog or cat seems to have at least one house rule they’ve decided doesn’t apply to them.

Maybe your dog has claimed the sofa as their own. Maybe your cat treats the kitchen counter like a viewing platform. Or perhaps personal space disappeared the day they moved in.

Some rules are clearly more negotiable than others.

What’s the one house rule your pet completely ignores? Tell us in the comments.

When a dog bed looks good, feels soft and cosy, and can go in the washing machine, it ticks quite a few boxes.

That’s exactly what Saskia highlighted after buying the Scruffs Cosy Soft Dog Bed for Chase, a Springer Spaniel.

In Saskia’s five-star review, the bed was described as well made, soft and cosy, with the added practicality of being machine washable. And, importantly, Chase seemed just as pleased with the new bed.

For everyday dog beds, those practical details can make a real difference. A comfortable place to settle is important, but removable or washable materials can also make keeping a dog bed clean much easier, particularly for beds that get used every day.

The Scruffs Cosy Soft Dog Bed combines a plush, cosy feel with a simple neutral design that works easily in the home.

What matters most to you when choosing a dog bed: comfort, washability, durability, or how it looks?

Bought a cat tree but your cat barely uses it? The problem might not be the cat tree. It could be where you’ve put it.

Choosing the right place for an indoor cat tree is about more than finding an empty corner. The best position usually fits naturally with how your cat already uses the room.

Start by looking at where they choose to spend their time. Do they regularly sit near a particular window? Prefer being in the same room as you? Look for elevated places when they want to rest or watch what’s going on?

A window position can work particularly well because it gives them natural light and something interesting to watch. But pay attention to your cat’s behaviour. If seeing neighbouring cats outside makes them tense or defensive, another position may suit them better.

Access matters too. Avoid squeezing a cat tree behind a door, into a narrow gap, or somewhere that makes getting on and off awkward. Cats should have a clear route to the different levels and enough surrounding space to move comfortably.

And before deciding on the perfect-looking position, check the practical things:

• Is the floor level?
• Is there enough clearance around the base?
• Does the cat tree feel stable?
• Can it be secured if the design provides an attachment point?
• Is it positioned away from the litter tray?

A well-positioned cat tree is more likely to become part of your cat’s everyday routine for climbing, scratching, resting, and watching the world go by.

Save this for when you’re choosing where your cat tree should go.

And if you already have one, which room has your cat claimed it in?

Looking for a cat tree that gives your cat height, scratching space and somewhere to settle, without filling the room?

The Scruffs Alpine Atlas Cat Tree combines a high-sided upper bed with an open intermediate perch, giving cats two elevated surfaces in a relatively compact design.

Natural pear-wood supports and sisal-wrapped sections provide dedicated scratching areas, while the padded surfaces create places to perch and rest. The upper bedding is also removable and machine washable, which makes day-to-day care easier.

At approximately 65 × 45 × 75 cm, the Atlas is worth considering if you want an indoor cat tree with useful height but don’t need one of the larger multi-level towers.

As with any cat tree, check the dimensions against both your available floor space and the amount of room your cat normally uses when sitting or settling. The upper sleeping area is smaller than the intermediate perch, so the right fit will depend on your cat’s size and preferred resting position.

Would your cat head for the high-sided top bed or claim the open perch first?

Don’t guess your dog’s bed size from the label. “Large” doesn’t always mean the same thing from one dog bed to the next.

Before choosing a new dog bed, it’s worth looking beyond S, M, or L and checking the measurements that actually affect how comfortably your dog can use it.

Start with the internal sleeping length and width, rather than only the overall dimensions. Raised or supportive sides can take up more room than you might expect, so the usable sleeping space can be noticeably smaller than the bed looks from the outside.

Then think about how your dog normally sleeps. A dog that stretches right out may need more length, while a dog that curls up or likes leaning into the sides may prefer a different shape and fit.

The front entry height is worth checking too, particularly for smaller or older dogs, or dogs that simply prefer an easier step into their bed.

And finally, don’t forget the bed’s overall footprint. The right bed needs to suit your dog, but it also needs to fit comfortably into the space you actually have at home.

So before buying your dog’s next bed, check:

Internal sleeping dimensions
How your dog sleeps
Front entry height
Supportive sides
Overall footprint

Indoor. Spayed or neutered. Senior. If your cat ticks any of those boxes, this is one dry food worth taking a closer look at.

Country Barn Chicken, Tuna & Salmon Dry Cat Food is a complete adult recipe that’s particularly suited to indoor cats, spayed or neutered cats, and senior cats.

The recipe contains 70% chicken, tuna and salmon, made up of 56% chicken, 10% salmon, and 4% tuna. It’s also grain free and includes FOS and MOS prebiotics, added fibre, L-carnitine, plus omega-3 and omega-6 as part of the complete formulation.

That’s why we wanted to look beyond simply calling it “adult cat food”. Your cat’s lifestyle can matter just as much as the age category on the front of the bag.

If your cat spends most of their time indoors, has been spayed or neutered, is getting older, or ticks more than one of those boxes, it can be useful to look at whether the food you’re choosing is actually formulated with cats like them in mind.

This Country Barn recipe comes in a 5kg bag, is a complete adult dry cat food, and is grain free.

Which one sounds most like your cat: indoor, spayed or neutered, senior, or a combination?

Be honest… where does your pet actually sleep?

They may have a perfectly good bed of their own, but that does not necessarily mean that is where you’ll find them at bedtime.

For some pets, their own bed is the favourite spot. Others make themselves comfortable on the sofa, claim a corner of your bed, find the warmest blanket in the house, or choose somewhere you would never have predicted.

Dogs and cats often develop very particular sleeping habits, and once they have decided where their favourite place is, changing their mind can be easier said than done.

Sometimes it comes down to comfort. Sometimes it is warmth, location, being close to you, or simply finding a spot where they feel settled. And sometimes there seems to be no logic whatsoever. They have simply decided that this is where they sleep now.

So we want to know what actually happens in your home.

Does your pet sleep in their own bed?
Do they end up in yours?
Have they claimed the sofa?
Or do they choose a completely different sleeping spot every night?

Tell us in the comments where your pet usually ends up sleeping.
