14 years of The Pig 🥳🐷 Happy 14th birthday to my sweet old lady piggy ❤️

You’re definitely showing your age a lot more this past year. The greys are creeping in, your little brain is slowing down and you’ve developed a whole collection of strange old-lady behaviours. 😂
But you’re still my happy little gal, still sassing me for more food and still acting like you’ve never been fed a day in your life. 😂

You’ve always been a little character, and even at 14 you still keep me on my toes. Although your recall has mysteriously disappeared whenever you smell someone eating a sausage roll… funny how that works. 👀😂

I’m so lucky to have had 14 years with you, and I’m going to make the most of all the adventures, cuddles, laughs and ridiculous moments still to come.

Here’s to many more good days ahead filled with happiness, food and being an absolute little gremlin. Mainly food. Always food. 🐷

Happy 14th birthday my little piggy, you truly are the best❤️🐷

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to every single one of you for all the love, kindness and support you’ve shown me and my family over the last week. Your messages, comments and understanding have honestly meant so much.

I’m so sorry for having to cancel walks and training at such short notice on Wednesday and Thursday. It’s something I absolutely hate doing, but you all made such a difficult time that little bit easier. I genuinely couldn’t ask for kinder, more understanding clients, and I know how lucky I am to have you all.

I’m now back to normal with walks and training this week. I might be a little more sensitive than usual, but I’m looking forward to getting back out with all your lovely dogs.

Thank you again for being so understanding. It never goes unnoticed, and I appreciate every single one of you. ❤️

I’ve put together a little video of some of Lady’s best moments over the years. She wasn’t the easiest dog, but she was the one who shaped me the most. She taught me patience, resilience and how to truly understand dogs. She also had an incredible talent for embarrassing me... especially when she decided the agility ring was the perfect place to have a poo. 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

Lady-Pie 🐾
September 2012 – 29th July 2026 🌈

Sweet Lady passed away today. She was nearly 14 years old, and it felt like she hadn’t aged at all. Hardly a grey hair had appeared, yet her body slowly started to give up on her, even though she never lost her determination.

I got you when you were just 6 months old, with hardly any nails on your paws and a cigarette burn on your nose. Your reactivity was on another level. You hated anything and everything. You weren’t the easiest of dogs, but I persisted, even when I constantly felt knocked back.

You pushed me to learn more about dogs and inspired me to help others like you. I should have taken videos of just how difficult things were in those early days, but I was so embarrassed. Yet somehow, along the way, we got there. I was able to take you everywhere with me. We sat in cafés while other dogs came and went. We went camping, climbed mountains and hills together, and you learned to be around sheep and chickens. You even competed in agility… although that didn’t quite go to plan! You were the dog who somehow convinced everyone you didn’t have any brain cells even though you did ❤️

For the final chapter of your life, my wonderful mum gave you the retirement you deserved in Wales, where you lived your very best life on the beaches.

Thank you, Lady, for pushing me to learn more about dogs and for inspiring me to help so many others. Thank you for teaching me to think on my feet... although I won’t thank you for getting me into trouble with other people so many times. ❤️

Rest in peace, sweet girl. I truly hope you’re at peace now. Jack and Emilio are waiting for you. 🌈❤️

And finally, thank you to everyone for being so understanding today and tomorrow while I have had to cancel walks. Your kindness and support have meant more than you know. ❤️

Such a good post about young puppies! 🐾

Puppies are not clean slates !
You often hear people say 'get a puppy they are a clean slate'

As a behaviourist and breeder I can confidently tell you this is not true. Both nature and nurture has a huge impact.
A puppy will inherit genes from its parents and these genes will impact the puppies genetic potential to behave in a particular way.
Such as :
Using aggression as a strategy to deal with difficult situations
Sociability towards people and dogs
Fearful responses
Sound sensitivity
Strong instinctive behaviour to hunt, chase, grab, hold and guard.
Trainability which includes the ability to learn self control as humans desire it.

Each puppy in the litter will get a different mix of these ingredients, each puppy recipe will be different.

When people breed dogs they sometimes select for specific traits and sometimes not. If someone is breeding for a particular look, colour or just money then these traits can become altered becoming stronger or weaker or unbalanced. This can make a dog dangerous for example breeding a dog with gameness and reducing human sociability.

Then the puppy is born and the first 8 weeks learning with the breeder will have an huge impact on the development of all these genetic traits.

My five puppies have all come from the same parents and been reared in the same environment. They have very individual personalities. The training and socialisation they receive in their new homes will only influence the genes and first learning, it won't change their personalities.

So if you are looking for a puppy
Firstly learn about breed traits and instincts and make sure you pick a puppy that will suit your lifestyle. For example there no point getting a breed that is 'aloof with strangers' if you have 3 young children and lots of friends visiting.

Secondly meet the parents or (genes), see what they are like. Make sure you are meeting the actual parents, some people buy in puppy farmed litters and then 'hire' an adult of the same breed to pretend the puppies were bred there!!

Thirdly make sure the puppy has had plenty of early neurological stimulation and learning before it leaves the litter. Ask these questions.
1) What have the puppies seen?
2) Who and what have they met?
2) What have they learnt?
3) How have they learned to play?
4) What do they do if they get frustrated?
5) What do they do if they get bored?

A professional trainer can help support and guide you on the process of looking for a puppy. Don't wait till afterwards for help.

Prevention IS better than Cure. This goes for training and socialisation too, get a professional to help and guide you.

Puppies are building neural pathways with every experience, every day, make sure they're building ones you like.

First Learning is the strongest, make sure you get it right first time.
