πŸͺ± It's that time again in our house... routine stool sample testing! 🐢🐱
Rather than worming routinely, we like to check first whether our animals actually have any intestinal parasites that need treating.

A simple stool sample test can detect common intestinal worms, allowing you to: βœ… Only treat when necessary. βœ… Avoid giving unnecessary medication. βœ… Keep an eye on your pet's health. βœ… Help reduce the risk of parasites being passed around the household.

Not every pet needs worming every few weeks, and regular testing can be a great way to make informed decisions about your pet's parasite control. Vince The Vet is Available to purchase from Audenshaw Pet Supplies for our local customers

This is our routine, and we'll let the results guide us on whether any treatment is needed.
Do you routinely worm your pets, or have you ever tried stool sample testing instead? We'd love to hear what works for you! 🐾

Why Your Cat's Ultrasound Might Measure anything upto 7 Days "Behind"

Have you ever had a pregnant cat scanned and be told the kittens are measuring nearly a week smaller than your mating dates suggest? Or scanned and early and don't see anything
Don't panic! This is incredibly common and usually comes down to amazing feline biology, not poor growth. Here is why mating dates do not always equal conception dates:
1. Cats Need a Trigger to Ovulate Unlike humans or dogs, female cats are induced ovulators. They do not automatically release eggs during heat.
The physical act of mating is what triggers the hormone surge needed to release the eggs. This process takes time, and eggs are usually not released until 24 to 60 hours after breeding.
2. S***m Can Wait Around -Feline s***m is incredibly resilient. Once inside the female, it can stay alive, healthy, and highly viable for up to 5 days.
3. The "Delayed Conception" Gap -If a cat mates on a Monday, but her body does not actually release the eggs until Saturday, that Monday s***m is still waiting and ready to fertilise them. The result? The pregnancy officially begins 5 days after the mating you witnessed.
The ultrasound impact: The scan measures the physical size of the fetus. It calculates age from the day of conception (Saturday), making the kittens look 5 days "late" or "behind" compared to your calendar notes (Monday)

4. Multiple Fathers Are Possible πŸˆβ€β¬›πŸˆBecause s***m survives for days, if a female mates with a different male a few days later, both sets of s***m can fertilise the eggs. This is why a single litter can have multiple fathers (superfecundation), leading to a mix of kitten sizes and appearances on the scan. The Takeaway If your queen is measuring a week behind but the scanner sees healthy heartbeats and normal development, trust the scan! Trust the ultrasound timeline to estimate your actual due date, as labor will likely happen 63 to 65 days from conception, not mating.

A little personal update from me ❀️
If you've messaged me recently and I've been slower than usual getting back to you, I just wanted to explain why.

I've been experiencing a flare-up of my FND symptoms over the last week or so, which has brought a lot of fatigue, muscle issues, and some days where even simple tasks have been much harder than normal even just basics like trying to type have been difficult. Those who know me know I don't tend to slow down unless I absolutely have to, but this time my body made that decision for me.

The good news is that I'm back at work today and gradually catching up with everything. If you're waiting for a reply, I promise I haven't forgotten about you. I'm just working through things at a pace that allows me to recover properly and avoid pushing myself straight back into another flare-up.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support. It genuinely means more than you know. ❀️
