That’s me finished now for a lovely long weekend! ❤️ I’m taking a proper little break to recharge, my work mobile has been diverted to the shop, which will remain open as usual for anyone needing help or advice.

I’ll be taking bookings and responding to enquiries again from Tuesday for Clinic Serviced.

EARLY FELINE PREGNANCY SCAN
This is what we can see during an early pregnancy scan in a cat at around 10–12 days post-ovulation! 🔬

At this very early stage, the gestational sacs are absolutely tiny, measuring approximately 5 mm in diameter!

I've been scanning for 11 years, so I'm experienced in seeing the different stages of pregnancy in both cats and dogs.

I also use top-of-the-range, CE-certified ultrasound equipment, which helps provide clear images and allows me to visualise fine details, even at these very early stages of pregnancy.

Generally, we recommend scanning from around 28 days after the last mating for both feline and canine pregnancies. However, occasionally, we can see signs of pregnancy much earlier than this!

⚠️ Please remember: At this early stage, we cannot confirm viability or guarantee that these sacs will continue to develop into healthy kittens. Further scanning as the pregnancy progresses is needed to assess development.

🐾 Early scanning can give us a useful indication of whether a queen may be pregnant, even before the stage at which we would normally recommend scanning.

It's fascinating what we can see with ultrasound, even when those tiny gestational sacs are only around 5 mm!

I’m organising a specialist cardiac scanning visit in the Tameside area, with a highly qualified sonographer travelling up from the London area.

Catherine Stowell is exceptionally experienced in cardiac ultrasound and actually trains veterinary cardiologists, making this a fantastic opportunity for local breeders to invest in their cats’ heart health.

WHAT WILL THE APPOINTMENT INCLUDE?

Catherine will perform a full, comprehensive echocardiogram, wherever the cat allows, with a detailed assessment and report.

This goes beyond screening for HCM (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) alone, providing a valuable baseline record of your cat’s heart while they are young and healthy. Cats can develop other cardiac conditions as they get older, so having a comprehensive scan on file can be useful for future comparisons.

💷 COSTS

🐾 £55 per cat – Full echocardiogram with Catherine, including her report.

🐾Optional - Approximately £120 per cat – Where additional cardiologist review and formal sign-off is required for your breed regiser. This is an estimated cost and will need to be confirmed with the cardiologist.

If your breed registry or showing organisation requires formal cardiologist sign-off, this can be discussed in advance.

📍 TAMESIDE & SURROUNDING AREAS

I already have interest in more than eight cats, and we’re now looking at arranging a suitable date for Catherine to travel up from London.

Appointments will be limited, and we’re hoping to coordinate a day that works for as many breeders as possible. Depending on locations and arrangements, there may also be the possibility of cats being scanned in their own homes.
