Handsome bob recently headed to the retail park with his friend Bruno, they enjoyed a pit stop at cafe Nero! It’s an important part of our assessing stage getting the dogs into the real world and understanding them the best we can! Bob would like to remind everyone now he’s caught your attention of the following events to help raise money for all our animals in care 💚

🎃 Autumn coffee morning this upcoming Friday the 16th! Come along to the shelter between 11-1pm for fresh cake and hot drinks and a lovely community morning, we have a raffle and our lovely charity shop is open and stocked as always with some lovely finds!

🎅 Santa paws is next month! We can’t believe it.
Come and join us on the 28th of November, between 11-3pm. Have a professional photo of your dog & Santa, we have wonderful gifts, shopping, local business stalls and some lovely winter refreshments.
Don’t forget the quiet hour 2-3pm available to book via emailing us at - [email protected] for any reactive and nervous dogs.

🎄 Our Christmas coffee morning is on the 11th of December 11-1pm, come and join us for some festive cheer, we will have our community room all cosy and ready for cake and hot drinks and of course a spot of Christmas shopping.

Meet Jack 🐾💚

Jack is a super cute little chap on the lookout for a new home. He was handed over due to a change of circumstances with his previous family, meaning they could no longer provide the care he needed.

Jack arrived in our care in a sorry state, with itchy skin, dirty ears and a noticeable limp in his walk. After a consult with our vets and x-rays, it was clear Jack was in desperate need of surgery on his hip, to repair an injury that had been left untreated for a number of years. Jack has had this surgery and is recovering well, but would ideally prefer to find a home and not have to return to kennels in order to continue his hopefully speedy recovery in a comfortable, low stress environment. The WARS team will be on hand to help any potential adopters with this, and cover any costs associated with the hip surgery and ongoing recovery.

Jack is a friendly boy and thrives when he is around his favourite people. He is known to roll over and ask for a belly scratch, and would happily sit with his humans for hours, we are sure he will make someone a fantastic little companion. He has previously lived with children, and may be able to do so again (aged 7 and above) pending successful meets at the shelter. We would consider slightly younger children who are terrier experienced and can understand Jack is an older boy, recovering from surgery and will need downtime in his new home. Typical of the terrier breed, Jack has a heightened prey drive and will not be able to live with small furry pets or cats. He is currently working on his social skills around other dogs, as he can currently be quite vocal when he sees them out and about, so would need to be the only dog in the home for now, and have continued training with calm walking friends going forwards. For 11 years old, Jack still has lots of life in him, and would enjoy a home that can offer him an enriching lifestyle with plenty of walks and brain games to keep him stimulated, followed by a snuggle and a snooze.

Many of our followers will recognise this lovely girl, Shelby. Shelby has sadly been with us here at WARS now for 1 and a half years, much longer than any dog should have to spend in kennels. Try as we might, we have been unable to find a family for her, but feel she is becoming increasingly fed up here and is longing for a loving home to call her own.

Therefore, we are now seeking a long term foster home for Shelby, where she will be loved as a family member but WARS will support the foster carer with Shelby's ongoing medication.
Shelby really has come on in leaps and bounds, from arriving as an ex-breeding bitch in a less than desirable condition to being the fantastic character she is today. Shelby has made lots of new friends, both human and canine, and has enjoyed many experiences, such as riding the bus, being the perfect café dog, and trotting round the local area on her very best behaviour. Whilst this sounds fabulous, she is really struggling, refusing to return to her kennel after a walk and craving the level of companionship that only a home environment can offer her.

In an ideal world, we would hope that Shelby's foster would lead to an adoption long term, but we are appealing to anyone who can open their hearts and homes to Shelby, to give her some much needed respite from a life in kennels.

Today we were extremely grateful to be invited along to the Malvern Arts Market by Jonathan and Rachel, son and daughter of the late Betty Clarke. Betty was very talented, and handmade (amongst many things) these beautiful ceramic bowls. Betty also adopted her cat Tibby from WARS 4 years ago and in honour of this, her children chose to sell her wonderful bowl collection to raise funds for WARS, Betty’s favourite charity 🐱

In total, a whopping £719 was raised for WARS, an incredible amount of money that will do so much for the shelter animals (our Animal Welfare Manager, Meg, picked herself up a fabulous new bowl too!)

Meet Little Humphrey

Calling all bulldog lovers! Handsome Little Humphrey is your typical young bulldog, full of life and full of character! He is a cheeky chap and there is never a dull day when Humphrey is around. He came into us from the stray kennels, underweight and with very poorly skin, however the team and his amazing foster carers have worked hard nursing him back to health and he is now on the lookout for his forever home. Humphrey really struggled in kennels, so is currently with a lovely foster family whilst searching for his forever home.

Little Humphrey is still adolescent, and has the energy to match so is looking for an active home where he can continue with his basic training, however he has come on in leaps and bounds since being in his foster home. He is a super friendly and affectionate boy who just wants to be friends with everyone, often found belly up on the sofa having a snooze with his human friends. Humphrey has successfully lived with children, and has been a gentle boy with them, so may be able to share his home with dog-savvy children aged 7 and above, pending successful meets at the shelter. Humphrey may also be able to share his home with another dog as he is friendly out and about with dogs he meets, and would be able to live with securely housed small animals, though we have no history on his behaviour around cats. He would be best suited to a home that are experienced with bulldogs, and aware of the traits that are associated with the breed. Humphrey has travelled well in the car, hopping straight into our van with no issues at all, and with his foster carer for vet visits. Humphrey has also been able to be left in his foster home for a couple of hours without issue, and should be able to do so again once settled into his new home.

Humphrey does have a cherry eye which intermittently becomes displaced and he may require surgery for in the future. For this reason, we would be sending Humphrey initially on a foster to adopt agreement so we can cover treatment relating to this. Further information will be provided to any successful applicants.
